Get the Look: Ethereal Makeup at Nanette Lepore FW 2011

February 23, 2011

As Fashion Week wrapped, we were left with a ton of amazing, fresh new looks to sort through, analyze and most importantly, glean inspiration from. So many of the looks at the various shows were stunning and bold, but by far, the pre-Raphaelite-esque makeup at Nanette Lepore stole the show[s], in my estimation.

Aside from the dead giveaway of Waterhouse-inspired siren red hair (pictured above), the slightly dewier faces with bold red lips, dainty but defined lashes and moon-silver eyes seem to have stepped straight off of a post-Medieval canvas. Here are four products that will lend the same other-worldly sheen to your look.

1.) Eyeshadow: Depending on your skin tone, you could opt for a gold or silver here- a pale gold seems to work on most skin tones, though. To duplicate this look, a wash of a neutral shimmer across the lid makes a fantastic base when closely matched to your bare skin. Precision isn’t super-important with this look, as there’s a bit of a halo effect inherent to it. Follow with a far paler gold shimmer and a smaller brush around tear ducts to create the fairy-like glow. NARS single shadows in Voyage and Abyssinia would replicate this look admirably- and the sleek black compacts always feel so chic in your makeup bag.

2.) Bed head hair: Fall 2011’s shows were dominated by undone, natural hair. Nanette Lepore’s models featured easy to imitate upbraids, a super old-school answer to bad hair days. A clarifying shampoo like Frederick Fekkai‘s will extend the shelf life of blowouts for easier styling, and a dry shampoo like Klorane‘s will create texture and absorb excess oil to further create sexily disheveled locks.

3.) Assertive red lips: Browned down, more demure red lips were notably absent in favor of cheeky blue or orange based red pouts. Bobbi Brown’s reds seem to be foolproof even in bolder shades, and Bobbi Brown Vintage Red or Bobbi Brown Vixen red are fantastic, vibrant hues to emulate this intense look.

4.) Coquettish lashes: Lashes in this collection took a backseat to lips and silvery eyes. A good curler and two light coats of mascara are pretty much all that’s needed to replicate the style- Vincent Longo’s mini curler enhances lashes in an understated way, and a classic, light mascara like Lancôme’s Definicils will define them without piling on the product.

Which beauty trends for Fall/Winter 2011 do you like best? Do you have a go-to red or shimmery base shadow?

February 21, 2011

In a previous post we shared 5 top beauty trends that we are seeing on the runways. Among the beauty trends that we spotted were winged eyeliner, pale skin, alabaster skin and tones of gun-metal and black. Even though L.A.M.B showed us six different looks at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week we spotted some of these trends again and again.

Here we see the pale skin combined with the winged eyeliner trend. I love the cat eye trend, it’s incredibly sexy!

Callula Lillibelle presented their  Fall / Winter 2011 presentation for the first time at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

The name Callula Lillibelle translated means “delicate beauty”+ “pure beauty” and the collection proved to be true.  Callula Lillibelle designer Melanie Fraser Hart and William Calvert created 1960s basics with a twist of modernism. Basic pieces like jackets, wide legged trousers and skinny pants were presented in bold colors, sequins, leopard prints and herringbone patterns.

Behind the Scenes: Backstage at Betsey Johnson FW 2011

February 18, 2011

During Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week I scheduled several shows, previews and backstages. While at Lincoln Center as I was checking my iPhone, I received an email that I was confirmed for backstage access at Betsey Johnson. Access to this highly coveted show does not come easily so I jumped at the chance to cover this show. Members of the press were allowed a limited amount of time to take photos and conduct interviews (literally 10 minutes). Of course I was elated so I grabbed my camera to capture the beauty of it all and headed to the back of Lincoln Center.

Peter Gray for Redken worked his magic by styling and cutting black bob wigs into sleek asymmetrical styles. He then carefully applied a lace template to the hair and they spray painted it gold leaving a delicate imprint on the hair. Simply Gorgeous!

The makeup was dramatic as expected. Shades of blue eyeshadow were swept across the lids and extended into the temples and gold eyeshadow highlighted the inner corners eyes. The look was completed with bold lashes and red lips.

The highlight of the day was seeing the diva, Betsey Johnson herself!

The Riviere Necklace from the Touche Du Bois collection

Noor Fares, a talent and young Lebanese jewelery designer has develop a line that combined the beauty of nature with the opulence of 18k gold encrusted diamonds.  One of my favorite collection is the Touche Du Bois ,which means  “Touch Wood for Luck”,  uses of wooden beads and the opulence of the diamonds and rose gold. One of my favorite pieces from the collection is the Riviere bracelet and necklace. These piece to me have  great Subtle details. One example of that is the sapphire set “evil” eye in Riviere bracelets.  The Touche Du Bois is a beautiful collection. Here are a few of my favorite pieces.

Here is a look at the sapphire “evil” eye on the The Riviere bracelet from the Touche Du Bois collection

Soffer Ari

One of my most popular items from The Black Collection is the 9mm bullet balled chain necklace. The tip is covered in diamonds and can add the edge to any outfit.

I love this Cabrini green heavy ring. This ring is blanketed in black diamonds with raw silver exposed.

The Soffer Ari collection can be described in two words,Rock glam. Tons of celebrities wear Soffer Ari collection including Taylor from Beverly Hills Housewives, Singer Fergie, and epic rocker Slash. This handmade collection used the best diamonds and raw silver. My favorite collections from Soffer Ari is the Black Collection. The handmade raw artwork from the collection has subtle and dangerous beauty. Soffer Ari has a diverse line that also includes clothing and furniture.

Gayle Grenadier

With a Egyptian influence and beautiful hand craving artwork, the Gayle Grenadier is full of detail. My favorite piece from the collection is this 18k gold cuff with diamonds and emeralds. I personally tried on the cuff and the detail is skillful. I also like that the designer actually studied Egyptian hieroglyphics. The Gayle Grenadier collection is full of history and luxury.

Alex Soldier

Alex Soldier is known for designing beautiful jewelry and fine art including the Prince Rainer III Award given to Denzel Washington and his wife Pauletta. One of the premier collections is the Alex Soldier Haute Couture collection. The Haute Couture collection is full of fine art. The meticulous handmade detail and allure. Each item is hand carved with a special made tool for this beautiful detailing. Up close the Haute collection is splendid and interesting.  Every piece from Alex Solider should be in a gallery.

I love the cuffs. It is a great accessory for any wardrobe.

I tried on this diamond locket and I love the structure of the necklace and the precise work. I love the white and black diamonds.

I had a wonderful time at the New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2011 Fine Jewelry Preview. You can never go wrong with diamonds.  I had a wonderful time.
