Looking Polished: New York Fashion Week FW16 Manicure Style

February 22, 2016

With NYFW winding down, I’ve had a chance to see all of the exciting new manicure styles for Fall Winter 2016. I noticed a trend returning back to the more simple and less over the top nail designs that we’ve been seeing for the past two years. These are some of my top everyday nail looking that will have you looking polished!

Alexander Wang's Fall/Winter 2016 collection, Michelle Saunders for essie created a soft nail, inspired by pink chalk. To achieve the look she layered tuck it in my tux over fiji, and then applied matte about you to add a matte, chalky finish.

Michelle Saunders for essie was captivated by a star design from a textile in the collection, which sparked the idea of a star-studded nail look. For the base color she chose mademoiselle, a classic, grown-up pink, to highlight the star. As for the nail design, she selected metallic shade good as gold and placed the "petite" star on the thumb and a sporadic finger on each hand to create more visibility when on the catwalk.

Julie Kandalec for essie created a feminine, soft pink nail by layering sugar daddy over limo-scene. The sheer shades allow the natural nail to shine through with an elegant hint of pink.

Michelle Saunders for essie created a warm, coral "tone on tone" nail design inspired by the modern music girl. To achieve the look, she used new spring shades sunshine state of mind, lounge lover and high class affair.

February 17, 2011

If you are a lover of diamonds and lavishness of New York Fashion Week, than you are in the right place. Lipstick and Luxury attended the fabulous New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2011 Fine Jewelry Preview  at the magnificent Soho House! The Soho house was beautiful filled with Moet Champagne, sushi, and cupcakes from Baked by Melissa. The NYFW Fall/Winter 2011 Fine Jewelry Preview showcases some of the hottest jewelry collection for 2011.  The five collections at the preview were absolutely grand. From edgy skulls encrusted in black diamonds to a rose gold necklaces pair with natural materials and diamond, the preview was filled with lux! So let’s talk jewelry!

N.oor

The Riviere Necklace from the Touche Du Bois collection

Noor Fares, a talent and young Lebanese jewelery designer has develop a line that combined the beauty of nature with the opulence of 18k gold encrusted diamonds.  One of my favorite collection is the Touche Du Bois ,which means  “Touch Wood for Luck”,  uses of wooden beads and the opulence of the diamonds and rose gold. One of my favorite pieces from the collection is the Riviere bracelet and necklace. These piece to me have  great Subtle details. One example of that is the sapphire set “evil” eye in Riviere bracelets.  The Touche Du Bois is a beautiful collection. Here are a few of my favorite pieces.

Here is a look at the sapphire “evil” eye on the The Riviere bracelet from the Touche Du Bois collection

Soffer Ari

One of my most popular items from The Black Collection is the 9mm bullet balled chain necklace. The tip is covered in diamonds and can add the edge to any outfit.

I love this Cabrini green heavy ring. This ring is blanketed in black diamonds with raw silver exposed.

The Soffer Ari collection can be described in two words,Rock glam. Tons of celebrities wear Soffer Ari collection including Taylor from Beverly Hills Housewives, Singer Fergie, and epic rocker Slash. This handmade collection used the best diamonds and raw silver. My favorite collections from Soffer Ari is the Black Collection. The handmade raw artwork from the collection has subtle and dangerous beauty. Soffer Ari has a diverse line that also includes clothing and furniture.

Gayle Grenadier

With a Egyptian influence and beautiful hand craving artwork, the Gayle Grenadier is full of detail. My favorite piece from the collection is this 18k gold cuff with diamonds and emeralds. I personally tried on the cuff and the detail is skillful. I also like that the designer actually studied Egyptian hieroglyphics. The Gayle Grenadier collection is full of history and luxury.

Alex Soldier

Alex Soldier is known for designing beautiful jewelry and fine art including the Prince Rainer III Award given to Denzel Washington and his wife Pauletta. One of the premier collections is the Alex Soldier Haute Couture collection. The Haute Couture collection is full of fine art. The meticulous handmade detail and allure. Each item is hand carved with a special made tool for this beautiful detailing. Up close the Haute collection is splendid and interesting.  Every piece from Alex Solider should be in a gallery.

I love the cuffs. It is a great accessory for any wardrobe.

I tried on this diamond locket and I love the structure of the necklace and the precise work. I love the white and black diamonds.

I had a wonderful time at the New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2011 Fine Jewelry Preview. You can never go wrong with diamonds.  I had a wonderful time.

Fashion Week Beauty: Five Hair and Makeup Trends From the Runway

February 17, 2011

Hair and makeup are undeniably important at Fashion Week, and while not forgotten, they can still take a bit of a backseat to the many fabulous clothing trends that debut during the fashion frenzy. If you’re a cosmetics junkie, you probably devour the makeup looks just as hard or harder as the fancy frocks on the catwalk. Here are five Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2011 makeup trends that we spotted!

1.) Paler, Matte-r Skin: As seen in this pic from MAC Cosmetics (and in several other places), skin for F/W 2011 is trending towards dropping the bronzer in favor of more natural, almond-y tones for fairer skin types. A bronzed glow is a bit of a perennial, but it was interesting to see the more alabaster types get their day- well, not in the sun, apparently. MAC’s Studio Fix is a very favored product for a perfected matte visage.

2.) Gunmetal and black: Lots of shows featured an Old Hollywood vibe, and gunmetal has a modern edge but undeniable silent film-era feel as well. (Seen on eyes in Badgley Mischka’s Fall/Winter 2011 collection.) Dior’s 1-Colour Ultra-Smoothing High Impact Eyeshadow in Argentic 056 or Flash Back 086 provides a finely-milled shimmery gray wash of color.

3.) Undone Updos: Are you one of those people who can get days out of a good blowout? Looks for Fall and Winter 2011 will put far less of a strain on your hot tools, as bed-head inspired updos totally rocked the runway this Fashion Week- as seen below at Vivienne Tam. A dab of Bumble & Bumble’s Brilliantine is a standby for this fashionably disheveled look.

4.) Neutral lips: A twist on the Hollywood siren look was a neutral lip in lieu of the old glam standard red. Make Up Forever did the look at Mara Hoffman below, and Rouge Artist Intense in Matte Caramel is a good neutral choice for an understated lip.

5.) Intense, winged liner: We hinted at this trend in our post about Mehron for Toni Francesc, but this is a look that popped up in several F/W 2011 collections and is seen below at Monique Lhuillier. NARS has a felt tip precision liquid eyeliner that would make this look a snap, even without pre-existing liquid liner skills.

Bibhu Mohapatra F/W 2011

February 16, 2011

New York Fashion Week

Inspired by Author Miller’s classic play, The Crucible, Bibhu Mohapatra really created something magical. Theatrical smoke filled the room and Mozart played in the background as guests entered to view the presentation. Drawing inspiration from the time of the Salem witch trials, the Fall/Winter 2011 presentation was dark and elegant. This collection featured touches of crows feathers, lace, silk, embossed leather and fur.

Bibhu Mohapatra FW 2011

The Fall 2011 palette featured (of course) black as well as olive and antique gold. Several pieces had fur detailing on the sleeves and jacket collars and most of the models wore leather gloves and/or chokers. I must say that the collection was quite impressive and one of the best that I’ve seen so far this fashion week. I’m sure that PETA will not be happy with the heavy usage of fur but this collection is enough to make any fashionistas’ heart sing. Bravo.
