March 4, 2018

EVER Skin has created a makeup line, that is designed to get you out the door in minutes (while being cruelty free and using non-toxic ingredients).

“The goal of Ever Skin was to marry luxury and efficacy with affordability and accessibility, with clean skin care that delivered transformative results. It was only natural to expand beyond skin care, and apply these same principles to makeup,” ~Ever General Manager, Ani Hadjinian

First we have the Out the Door makeup palette which featured numbered eye and cheek shades infused with

  • Antioxidant-rich Magnolia Oil extract, Vitamin E, and Shea Butter to condition skin and help protect against environmental stressors.
  • Diamond Powder, was added to give a brilliant dimension on the cheeks and eyes
  • Mineral Radiance Boosters help to smooth and highlight for a naturally soft glow. The shades were designed to be universally flattering shades for all skin tones and you have two palette options.

BOLD & BRAVE: Modern neutrals for deep skin tones or worn as dramatic shades for a night on the town.

ELEGANT & EMPOWERED: Modern neutrals for fair to medium skin tones. Flattering tones to complement any day look

Next we have Whiplash Mascara, a rich black, volumizing mascara that dramatically separates and lengthens your lashes quickly. CLINICAL STUDY RESULTS: With just 3 coats, Whiplash™ Mascara increases lash volume more than 8 times! Wow factor!

FLASH™ Power Plumping Lip Gloss is quite the multitasker with semi-sheen finish and luscious lip-plumping power. Available in 6 luxe nude tones for a pretty hint of color. Available in: If you use: Try: Sugar Nude, Blush Nude, Rosé Nude, Cameo Nude and Mocha Nude

And last but not least, no makeup collection would be complete without a fabulous brush set. Makeup Contouring vs Strobing

January 23, 2018

Whether you’re looking for sculpted over dewy, subtlety or drama, beautypress has the ‘what’s what’ about the contour-strobing debate!

Contour

What is it?
Contouring combines a mix of darker skin tone shades to chisel your features and lighter shades for highlighting – it’s all about making those cheekbones pop!

The Look you’re after
Sculpted, matte and a whole lotta drama.

Master it.
Don’t make the mistake of using bronzer – there’s too much shimmer in there. It’s all about creating an envious illusion of peaks and valleys on your face…yes really. For this reason, a contour matte must be used in a color slightly darker than your natural skin tone. Top application hack: use a small fluffy eye shadow brush for a really precise contour. Use a darker shade of contour matte along the side of your temples, under your cheekbones and jawline. Dab a foundation brush or a damp egg sponge over the contour masterpiece to make sure there are no obvious lines. Less is really more!

Strobing

What is it?
Contour’s way simpler and less dramatic sister.

The Look you’re After
Fresh, dewy, subtle.

Master it.
For a soft, radiant glow, this look uses only light to enhance your face – so forget the bronzers and dark powders here. Head straight for that highlighter stick! Switch your normal primer for a glow primer, or simpy mix a bit of luminizer with your foundation to gear up for a top glow. Avoid using anything matte in this routine as it’ll dull down your results. Next, use a highlighter to enhance where the light would naturally hit your face, which, for most of us is your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose and across your temples. Don’t apply highlighter to your forehead if you’re scared of looking oily. For light skin, apply a champagne highlighter and for medium to dark – prepare to shine in more golden hues.

Lesson of the day:

Contour works best on mixed to oily skin – or for those who want banging cheekbones. Strobing works for those who want a fresher, more subtle glow – less product, less fuss.

Review: Maybelline The City Mini Palette

August 9, 2017

480: Matte About Town

I received this sample of Maybelline The City Mini Palette from Influenster, thanks guys!

From Maybelline:

Make a lasting impression with Maybelline’s six-shade mini eyeshadow palette, The City Mini Palette Downtown Sunrise.

Benefits:

  • Perfectly curated shades in a miniature six-color eyeshadow palette
  • Pure color pigments melt onto the eyelid for dramatic impact in a single sweep
  • Create your own amped-up look in an instant
  • Super-saturated color pigments deliver a long-lasting finish

Maybelline is a drug store favorite, always easy to find and reasonably priced. However, Maybelline is unfortunately not a cruelty free brand.

I found the colors to be quite beautiful, these are all neutral shades that are very flattering. I found the acutal shadow to be quite powdery and not that buildable. But the shades do apply smoothly, which I liked a lot. The shadows are not as pigmented as some other brands but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, especially if you’re not into the heavy eyeshadow look – I’m not.

Swatch #2

Overall the palette is quite beautiful but requires a bit more effort than other eyeshadow palettes. There was more time spent on blending and there’s the eyeshadow fall out to consider as well as the pigmentation but if you prefer a softer eye look then you may love this palette.

Have you tried The City Mini Palette?

Complimenting Your Skin Tone with Makeup

September 21, 2016

freshfaceDM3003_468x421

Women of all skin tones deserve flawless makeup. But finding the right shades for you can be difficult, and too often women are left with streaky concealer, nudes that don’t match their skin and mismatched face and body coloration. Perfect products exist for basically every skin tone if you do enough research. Here are a few ways to find makeup for your skin tone.

Find Your Undertones
Before you start looking at makeup, figure out what kind of undertone your skin has: cool (pink or blue), warm (yellow or golden) and neutral (a combination). If you’re not sure which tone you have, there are a few methods for figuring this out, like checking the color of your veins in your wrist. A cool-toned person will have blue or purple veins, while a warm-toned person will have green veins and a neutral person will have blue-green. Another method is to think of how your skin reacts to the sun. If you tan easily, you are likely warm toned, if you burn easily, you are likely cool toned, and if you aren’t sure, you’re likely neutral. Most makeup companies will divide their foundations and concealers by cool and warm tones, so completing this step will help to narrow down your choices when you start shopping.

Quality Products
The quality of your makeup is of utmost importance. Even if you find a perfect match to your skin tone, makeup that settles in your pores or melts throughout the day is not flattering at all. Do some research before you make a purchase, and learn from the pros. For example, the professional makeup artists at New York Fashion Week use the best in the industry, like the Artistry collections from Amway, so the models are runway ready. Find the brands that the professionals turn to from reading blogs, watching YouTube videos and following their social media accounts. They may be a bit more expensive than a drugstore product, but when seeking out flawless skin, the investment is worthwhile.

Application Tools
You’ve found your perfect shade and bought a high-quality product, now it’s time to put it on. It may seem like common sense to use the tool that is included with your foundation to put it on, or even just your fingers. But this can lead to streakiness and uneven coverage. Makeup sponges like the beautyblender have been gaining popularity in recent years. Since they have no edges they create a seamless look, and are simple to use. There are also many foundation brushes that work well to blend out makeup. Read reviews on sites like Sephora, Ulta and Amazon to find one that will work for you.

Complimentary Tones
Once you have a great base in place, move forward to the rest of your makeup: eyes, cheeks and lips. As with finding foundation, it’s good to keep in mind what your skin’s undertone is, as different colors compliment undertones differently. For example, a cooler pink blush might fit in perfectly with warm skin. Women with darker skin tones can also experiment with more dark and bright shades than those with pale skin.

Perfect makeup is achievable. While you may have had trouble finding the perfect match and coverage for your skin in the past, following these tips will help you achieve an effortless and smooth look.
