Betsey Johnson previews new fragrance, Too Too

August 10, 2011

Betsey Johnson Too Too preview perfume event at Milk Studios

I attended fragrance preview for Betsey Johnson’s new perfume, Too Too, held at Milk Studios in New York City. The event was only something that the iconic designer could conceive – dancers from the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, a dance performance by the Stephen Petronio Company and lots of cupcakes and mimosa’s. Well there was other food there but was mildly obsessed with the sweet treats.

Betsey’s  years as a dancer inspired this fragrance, hence the name Too Too. I had NO idea that Betsey was a dancer and that explains a lot! You see Betsey is 69 years old and she has more enthusiasm for life than I’ve seen in some twenty-somethings. She obviously has a passion for fashion and life and it shows – look at her moves!

The fragrance is fruity with floral notes but also undeniably youthful. And what I love most about this fragrance is that it IS youthful which is everything that Betsey embodies. The fragrance is composed of sweet passion fruit, mandarin, ginger along with strawberrry with Jasmin, Bulgarian rose, patchouli, sandalwood and vanilla bottom notes. The bottle is pink and black with lots of leopard along with flowers and tulle. Betsey taps into her own personal style and adorns the bottle with her namesake Betsey Johnson ribbon.

The dancers were doing the most in their Tu-Tu’s for the Too Too event!

The event was too fun and the fragrance is as inspiring and it is beautiful. Too Too will launch in October 2011 exclusively at Sephora through April 2012, followed by department stores and specialty boutiques.

Behind the Scenes: Backstage at Betsey Johnson FW 2011

February 18, 2011

During Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week I scheduled several shows, previews and backstages. While at Lincoln Center as I was checking my iPhone, I received an email that I was confirmed for backstage access at Betsey Johnson. Access to this highly coveted show does not come easily so I jumped at the chance to cover this show. Members of the press were allowed a limited amount of time to take photos and conduct interviews (literally 10 minutes). Of course I was elated so I grabbed my camera to capture the beauty of it all and headed to the back of Lincoln Center.

Peter Gray for Redken worked his magic by styling and cutting black bob wigs into sleek asymmetrical styles. He then carefully applied a lace template to the hair and they spray painted it gold leaving a delicate imprint on the hair. Simply Gorgeous!

The makeup was dramatic as expected. Shades of blue eyeshadow were swept across the lids and extended into the temples and gold eyeshadow highlighted the inner corners eyes. The look was completed with bold lashes and red lips.

The highlight of the day was seeing the diva, Betsey Johnson herself!
