Review: DHC Deep Cleansing Oil

Review: DHC Deep Cleansing Oil

DHC Deep Cleansing Oil is one of the cult products that I’ve been reading about for a long time but I had yet to try. There are just so many skin care products on the market and so little time to try them all! I was invited to a DHC launch party and I received a sample so I had no excuse to give this cleansing oil a shot.

This is not the first time that I’ve used a cleansing oil and if you’ve read my previous reviews then you already know that I love them.

This cleanser is olive oil based and olive oil is excellent for the skin (hair too). It’s the first ingredient in this cleanser so that means that the products is mostly comprised of olive oil. With dry hands and face, the product is gently massaged on your face -which feels really nice! And slowly the cleansing oil will begin to break down any makeup, oil and dirt on your face. After you’ve worked the cleanser into your skin, it’s time to rinse. You might think that this cleanser may take would be difficult to remove but it rinses clean, no need for excessive rinsing!

Conclusion: One of the main things that I noticed was how effectively this cleansing oil removed my makeup; it did a better job than any makeup remover that I’ve used. The cleanser is super gentle and like other oil based cleansers it left my skin balanced, not oily but adequately hydrated. I certainly did not need to use any moisturizer.

Review: Alivea All-Natural Skin Soothing Cream

July 17, 2012

Alivea An All-Natural Skin Soothing Cream

Skin care is something that I take seriously. I now read the ingredients not only in the foods that I eat but also in the products that I use. That’s why I was so intrigued when I learned about Alivea All-Natural Skin Soothing Cream. This cream contains only three ingredients: olive oil, beeswax, and water.

Olive Oil, the main ingredient in Alivea contains powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties making it an excellent choice for skin care. Antioxidants help to prevent and repair damage to the body’s tissues making it a natural anti-aging ingredient. The healthy omega-6 fatty acids help your body to produce natural anti-inflammatory agents. That’s why olive oil is used to treat various skin ailments like psoriasis and sun burn. The second ingredient, Beeswax also has some antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties but it also has antiviral properties, making it beneficial for skin irritations.

Review: Alivea All-Natural Skin Soothing Cream

I always like to give products a scent test because if its going on your skin it has to at least smell pleasant. Right? Alivea has a moderate scent of olive oil, which is to be expected since that’s the main ingredient but the scent fades does away after a few minutes. I tested the cream on the driest parts of my body, my heels and elbows, and the cream absorbed quickly leaving my skin noticeably softer. The cream is extremely rich and thick so you’ll only need about a dime sized amount for your legs or arms. As expected the cream is hydrating and with the combination of the beeswax, not at all greasy. I’ve used olive oil in my hair so I know how messy it can get, this is nice alternative.

There are many brands that claim to be all natural until you read the ingredients. Alivea is authentically an all-natural brand that is safe to use on children, which is important to me as a mother. Alivea can also be used on the entire body including your face because the ingredients won’t clog your pores. The cream feels so good on my dry skin that its now a staple in my gym bag!

Natural Beauty Tips that you can try at home

March 20, 2010

natural beauty

I love beauty and self-improvement is every form and I believe that “natural” beauty is just as fun and important as any of my favorite beauty luxuries. Here are a few home beauty tips and treatments that I’ve picked up along the years. I hope that you find them useful.

My Top 10 Natural Beauty Remedies

1. Dark circles under your eyes? Cut a slice of Potato and place under your eye for 10-15 minutes. Potatoes contain an enzyme called Catecholase which naturally lightens skin.

2. Stained nails from using dark polish? Soak your nails in lemon juice. Lemon is an astringent and will remove the stains.

3. Have apple cider vinegar in your home? It can be used to treat dandruff as well as oily skin (50% apple cider vinegar & 50% water)

4. Dry Skin? Take a milk bath; milk contains lactic acid which is an alpha hydroxy acid known to shed dead skin cells. Add 2-4 cups to a warm bath and soak for 20 minutes and rinse.

5. Sometimes you may get a blemish or two and you don’t have any acne treatment on hand, try honey. Honey has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and it kills the bacterium that causes acne. Dab on a small amount on the affected area and rinse off after 10 minutes.

6. You wanna get your dry winter heels ready for the summer? Mash a ripe banana and spread the pulp on your heels, leave on for 10 minutes and rinse.

7. Dry lips? After brushing your teeth, brush your lips! This will help exfoliate them and wisk away the dry skin, then apply Petroleum Jelly or vitamin E oil or your favorite lip balm.

8. If you use a lot of product on your hair, you may want to add baking soda to your shampoo. This will turn your shampoo into a clarifying shampoo that will help remove the buildup.

9. If your nails are weak and break easily, you may want to soak them in olive oil for 5 minutes every night.

10. If your lips are dry and cracked, try rubbing cucumbers on them, it will help heal your lips.
