Review: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Grandma

May 5, 2013

IMG_0950

I have to say, it is amazing how the beauty industry has innovated its technology to provide quality make up that is vegan, cruelty free and in the near future (hopefully) all natural. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics pretty much almost makes the cut by fulfilling all three.  The ingredients in the lip tar are primarily natural sources (with certain exceptions to ingredients that still require a natural alternative) and once again, vegan and cruelty free, so I knew I had to try one of these babies.

ltgrandmaI got the shade in Grandma which was described as “clean coral”. I have to say, it was a little on the orange side of the coral spectrum, and it wasn’t something I would wear to work. With that said, it is such a fun shade that I would definitely pull off for a night-time look. Treat the lip tars as liquid lipstick and if you are to buy the product, definitely invest in a lip lining brush cause you simply cannot dab this product with your fingers.

This lipstick is primarily oil based, with castor oil, hemp oil and peppermint oil as the first three ingredients listed on the product. That said, treat the tar as your foundation and have a base layer on the lips before you put this product on. The instructions also suggested that you can top it off with a little gloss for the sheen but I did not want to take the attention away from the beautiful shade so I kept it sans gloss. It applies on smooth so long as you have a base and with this shade, it did not look matted, there was a natural sheen to it.

There’s a variety of shade on the website so for those of you who want to be more ethically friendly, definitely stock up on some lip tar!

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of OCC, they’re lippies are vegan and made with natural ingredients AND they work really well. The colors are highly pigmented and they’re super moisturizing. My favorite is NSFW which is my favorite shade of red ever. Well they’ve added some new products to their insanely popular lip line, so let’s take a look!

Getting Lippy: Obsessive Compulsive Cometics Lip Tar in Butch and Pretty Boy

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics in Pretty Boy and Butch
Butch (L), Pretty Boy (R)

When you find a great lipstick or lip gloss, you stick with it. For me Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar is the perfect combination of a fully pigmented lipstick and the shine and moisture of a lip gloss. In fact OCC Lip Tar makes one of my favorite bold red lip colors, NSFW!

OCC is known for their bold and highly pigmented makeup and all of their collections reflect that. The Fall/Winter 2011 season OCC released their “Pretty Boy” collection inspired by glam rock stars and designed “to empower all genders to express themselves with color.”

PRETTY BOY: F/W 2011 COLOUR

With a lip collection featuring colors like Femme, Banjee and Queen, how can a gay girl resist such options? Personally I love a hot butch; and honestly its nice to see a brand embracing queer culture.

Well today we are featuring two colors from the Fall 2011 collection, Butch and Pretty Boy. Butch is a Periwinkle blue which is great if you’re a club kid from the 90s but since its 2012 I’d suggest mixing it with another lip tar. Pretty Boy is a vibrant ultra-pigmented fuchsia, definitely not for the faint of heart.

And when you combine the two together you get this amazingly wearable berry hue that I am madly in love with. The two colors combined make Butch and Pretty Boy a bit more wearable for your every day makeup.

Getting Lippy: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in NSFW

August 2, 2011

I like many of you could not resist the red lip trend when it emerged. And I like many of you hesitated because finding that perfect shade of red can be a nearly impossible task. You see I’m not new to this whole trend because it’s been around before. I remember in my high school days I searched nearly every drugstore for a complimentary shade that delivered the right amount of pigment and that was flattering on my complexion. No easy task. So when the trend emerged again I knew that I was going to have to do some deep digging.

Now I’ll admit, I don’t wear red lipstick all that often. Most of the time I roll out of bed, make breakfast, get my kids ready for school and have just enough time to get myself ready and head to work. Hey, red lipstick is a little high maintenance and sometimes I’m a low maintenance gal.

But when I want to turn it up a notch, let’s face it, red lips are smokin’ hot. However if not applied properly or in the right shade they can look clownish. There’s a very fine line between the two, ladies, so choose wisely. Now when I came across Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in NSFW I immediately loved the color but I hated the consistency. The formula seemed so messy and hard to apply. Well I found out that I was applying it all WRONG. Oopsie! OCC lip tars need to be applied with an angled brush and the best part is you only need a tiny bead for full lip coverage.

If you’re not familiar with Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics lip tars then let me fill you in. OCC Lip tars apply like a gloss but can look like lipstick. They contain loads of pigment and Hemp Oil, Peppermint Oil and Vitamin E which really moisturize dry lips. And lastly these little beauties are 100% Vegan and Cruelty-Free.

So what share are you wearing on your lips today?
