Getting Lippy: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in NSFW

August 2, 2011

I like many of you could not resist the red lip trend when it emerged. And I like many of you hesitated because finding that perfect shade of red can be a nearly impossible task. You see I’m not new to this whole trend because it’s been around before. I remember in my high school days I searched nearly every drugstore for a complimentary shade that delivered the right amount of pigment and that was flattering on my complexion. No easy task. So when the trend emerged again I knew that I was going to have to do some deep digging.

Now I’ll admit, I don’t wear red lipstick all that often. Most of the time I roll out of bed, make breakfast, get my kids ready for school and have just enough time to get myself ready and head to work. Hey, red lipstick is a little high maintenance and sometimes I’m a low maintenance gal.

But when I want to turn it up a notch, let’s face it, red lips are smokin’ hot. However if not applied properly or in the right shade they can look clownish. There’s a very fine line between the two, ladies, so choose wisely. Now when I came across Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in NSFW I immediately loved the color but I hated the consistency. The formula seemed so messy and hard to apply. Well I found out that I was applying it all WRONG. Oopsie! OCC lip tars need to be applied with an angled brush and the best part is you only need a tiny bead for full lip coverage.

If you’re not familiar with Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics lip tars then let me fill you in. OCC Lip tars apply like a gloss but can look like lipstick. They contain loads of pigment and Hemp Oil, Peppermint Oil and Vitamin E which really moisturize dry lips. And lastly these little beauties are 100% Vegan and Cruelty-Free.

So what share are you wearing on your lips today?

It looks a lovely shade! I’ve not yet tried a lip tar, mostly because I think a lot of the shades are quite unwearable (or at least look that way online) but I definitely want to try this one! xx

So funny, I just spent half an hour in the drug store yesterday finding a shade of lipstick that works. I could go the MAC counter as I usually do but it was an impulse as I had some time to kill before a meeting. I finally decided on Warm and Cozy by Maybelline which is a warm pinky brown. I like red, too, for night time and I really need to line my lips when I wear red which I don’t feel I have to do when I wear pink/brown.

All you said in the article, red lips are smokin’ hot. Love the shade and I’m a big make-up gal anyhow. What I love is the 100% vegan and cruelty-free. How great is that.

Great blog, keep up the good work.

I’m new to them but I love the texture and how pigmented they are.
