Bronzed Inspiration from NYX Cosmetics backstage at Nichols K S/S ’14

Bronzed Inspiration from NYX Cosmetics backstage at Nichols K S/S '14

The backstage beauty look for Nicholas K was minimal but sculpted. Celebrity makeup artist Daniel Martin wanted to convey chic, nomadic, tribal makeup. “Sibling design team Nicholas Kunz and Christopher Kunz presented muted, earth-toned looks in light and airy shapes with white as a prominent color throughout. To compliment this collection, Lead Makeup Artist Daniel Martin for NYX Cosmetics drew inspiration from the hip, downtown “NYX woman” and Nicholas K’s Native-American influences, creating a makeup look that evoked a “Modern Tribal Warrior.”

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Face Chart

The look involved a heavy emphasis on a bronzed face utilizing NYX  Cosmetics’ Stay Matte But Not Flat Liquid Foundation mixed with Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator-Gleam, as well as some Mineral Finishing Powder only in the T-Zone.  NYX Cosmetics eyeshadows in Dance the Tides, Skinny Dip, and Hot Orange where mixed together to create a look mimicking a sunburn (different right?), the sculpted look was extended to the cheeks using NYX Matte Bronzer. On  the lips, just balm! Overall, this is a beautifully simplified look with minimal product.

What do you think of this look?

Get the Look: Emmy Rossum at the 2013 Met Gala

Get the Look: Emmy Rossum at the 2013 Met Gala

Last night was the illustrious Met Gala and this years theme was PUNK: Chaos to Couture. And Emmy Rossum got it right, showing a bit of glamour meets Goth. Her makeup was flawless thanks to NYX Cosmetics. Emmy wore a gorgeous one-of-a-kind Donna Karan Atelier gown and rocked a “luxurious rebel” makeup look. Celebrity Makeup Artist Jo Baker used NYX Cosmetics, here’s how you can get her look:

Complexion:

To create a dewy look with medium coverage, Baker started with NYX HD Studio Photogenic Foundation in Nude. She paired the liquid foundation with NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat Powder Foundation in Creamy Natural to bring out Emmy’s beautiful skin and natural complexion. Baker then applied the NYX Green Tea Blotting Papers to ensure the durability of Emmy’s makeup.

Cheeks:

To create the perfect sculpted cheek, Baker swept NYX Highlight & Contour Powder on the sides of Emmy’s cheekbones and down her nose. To add a healthy glow to Emmy’s skin, Baker then blended the contouring powder with NYX Powder Blush in Natural on the apples of Emmy’s cheeks up to her hairline. She then applied NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator in Sunbeam along Emmy’s collarbone and shoulders for a shimmery highlighter that would reflect perfectly off the bright lights of the Met Ball cameras.

Eyes:

To create a strong canvas for Emmy’s dramatic eye makeup, Baker started with NYX Eye Shadow Base in White.  Baker then applied NYX Cream Shadow in Chocolate to create the overall shape and dimension of the eye and eyebrow. She added extra definition by pressing the NYX Roll On Eye Shimmer in Onyx with her finger onto the outside of the eyes and then blending with a flat brush. She then softened the shimmer of the shadows with NYX Nude Matte Shadow in Tryst to make the smoky eye makeup look more sophisticated and wearable. NYX Kohl Kajal Black Liner was used to create a winged liner that extended to the outside of Emmy’s eyes and blended up to the eyebrows. To complete the look, Baker applied NYX Propel My Eyes Mascara heavily on her top lashes.

Lips:

Keeping the focus on Emmy’s strong eyes and brows, Baker finished her look with a soft peach lip color using NYX Round Lipstick in Fortune Cookie. “This rock ‘n’ roll girl may stay out all night at the punk show- but she’s coming home, taking off her makeup and putting on a face mask- keeping it classy!” said Baker.

NYX Cosmetics Spring 2013 Makeup!

February 1, 2013

Aren’t you over the Winter already? I know I am. And looking at some fresh Spring beauty items always helps!

NYX Cosmetics, a budget friendly and cruelty free makeup line has a whole NEW beautiful collection of makeup goodies to get you ready for the season. I decided to highlight some of the best of the collection because the collection is HUGE!

NYX Butter Gloss has 12 delicious new shades. These glosses has earned their name because they feel buttery smooth on your lips. The gloss also smells delectable, Nyx describes the scent as a sugar cookie and I’d have to agree!

The gloss is smooth, not sticky and it seemed to melt right into my lips. This formula gives medium coverage, not ultra sheer and certainly not lipstick opaque. So it gives a fair amount of color that you can build up a little. The gloss has a great shine and sufficient moisture so wearing it alone is great. You can also layer it on top of your favorite lipstick for a little more intensity and shine.

Another winner from the Spring 2013 collection is the NYX Born to Glow, Liquid Illuminator. I’m a bronzer girl, it is hands down one of my favorite makeup items besides lipstick. With little bronzer and a little lipstick you can fake a great nights sleep or a sun-kissed tan. So I wear bronzers year round and usually more than one at a time – I like to layer sheer colors.

The NYX Illuminator is comes in Sunbeam which is a pale pink pearl shimmer and Gleam with is a golden peach pearl shimmer. The Gleam shade is gives  a great glowy look and it’s like a sheer bronzer. Sunbeam is great as a highlighter or mixed in your foundation to add a bit of shimmer.

For Spring 2013, NYX was all about the eyes. In total there are 44 new palettes available…that’s a lot of eyeshadow.

I picked three of my favorite color combinations from the Love in Florence Eyes Palette. These are 5-color eyeshadow palettes with complementary colors.  NYX also created  a set of 9-color and 3-color palettes giving us lots of options!

Bellini Kiss is my favorite out of the eyeshadow palettes because it’s so warm and perfect for Spring. The colors are rich but not overly pigmented; they’re buildable if you want a more intense look. I like it subtle so these work nicely for everyday makeup.

What do you think of the NYX Cosmetics Spring 2013 makeup line?
