Looking Polished: Sally Hansen Salon Effects in Lust-Rous

June 9, 2012

Sally Hansen Salon Effect Real Nail Polish Strips in Lust-Rous

I desperately needed a manicure but I didn’t have time to get one; I would normally give myself a manicure at home but I really wanted it to look nice so that wasn’t an option. So I stopped by Duane Reade and picked up some Sally Hansen Nail Polish Strips. It’s been a while since I’ve used them so I wanted to try something new and picked out shade #470 a.k.a Lust-Trous. I was really hoping for “Love Letter” the pretty black and white script print but it of course was sold out. Lust-Trous is a pretty black polish with different sized fleck of silver and gold sparkles.

I’ve used the nail polish strips before and liked them a lot, unfortunately they don’t always last for 10 days. My strips lasted about 5 days before they began to chip…see my index finger. But they’re a great alternative if you’re like me and polishing your nails is not exactly your forte. The only problem that I have with these nail polish strips in centering them so that the strip covers the nail bed perfectly, it’s an art I suppose.

What are you wearing on your nails this week?

Review: Sally Hansen VitaSurge Cuticle Gel

August 16, 2011

Sally Hansen vitasurge cuticle gel review

I have a serious love for drugstores – you can always find tons of things that you need and things that you didn’t even know you needed!

On my last trip to Duane Reade I stopped in the nail supply aisle – mainly because I have a mild obsession with nail lacquers at the moment but also to see what’s new. Naturally there was a large Sally Hansen with many products that I never tried before. My eyes were soon drawn to a pretty orange bottle with tiny beads or as Sally Hansen refers to them, Micro-Encapsulated Vitamins, it was the Vita Surge Cuticle Gel.

Product Information:

Instantly condition and smooth cuticles! A fast-absorbing gel formula that nourishes dry, ragged cuticles. Leaves no color. Multi-active bead infused formula instantly releases a surge of nourishing Vitamin E and Botanical Extracts to condition and hydrate cuticles. Restores dry cuticles so they look and feel smooth and healthy.

APPLICATION TIPS: Shake gently. Apply daily over bare nails or dry nail color. Massage in with applicator or finger. Reapply as needed.

My cuticles get very dry and have desperately needed some TLC for a few weeks, so as soon as I got home, I cracked the bottle open. Immediately I noticed the light citrus-y scent which is a nice compliment to the orange gel color – not necessary or anything but just saying. Instead of a nail brush, Sally Hansen use soft doe foot applicator (about the same size used in a tube of lip gloss) which gives a broad application. The applicator is absorbent and holds enough product that you won’t need to keep dipping inside of the bottle.

The product information states that the product absorbs quickly but it actually take a little massaging to get the gel to absorb completely. After massaging the gel it, it does dry clearly and my cuticles are left much smoother and less dry looking. The scent of orange fades by the time that the gel dries. Overall I was pretty pleased with the results, for a quick cuticle moisturizer this does the trick and quite nicely I might add. I might just have to keep this one in my purse.

Sally Hansen Collaborates with Prabal Gurung

June 15, 2011

During New York Fashion Week there was much discussion about the collaboration between Sally Hansen and designer Prabal Gurung. The duo paired together to create 4 exclusive nail looks inspired by Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama. Kusama is an avant-garde sculptor artist known for using polka dot and net motifs in bright watercolors, pastels and oils.
