Looking Polished: New York Fashion Week FW16 Manicure Style

February 22, 2016

With NYFW winding down, I’ve had a chance to see all of the exciting new manicure styles for Fall Winter 2016. I noticed a trend returning back to the more simple and less over the top nail designs that we’ve been seeing for the past two years. These are some of my top everyday nail looking that will have you looking polished!

Alexander Wang's Fall/Winter 2016 collection, Michelle Saunders for essie created a soft nail, inspired by pink chalk. To achieve the look she layered tuck it in my tux over fiji, and then applied matte about you to add a matte, chalky finish.

Michelle Saunders for essie was captivated by a star design from a textile in the collection, which sparked the idea of a star-studded nail look. For the base color she chose mademoiselle, a classic, grown-up pink, to highlight the star. As for the nail design, she selected metallic shade good as gold and placed the "petite" star on the thumb and a sporadic finger on each hand to create more visibility when on the catwalk.

Julie Kandalec for essie created a feminine, soft pink nail by layering sugar daddy over limo-scene. The sheer shades allow the natural nail to shine through with an elegant hint of pink.

Looking Polished: Essie Winter 2011 Collection with Essie Weingarten

October 12, 2011

Yesterday I attended a wonderful media breakfast with Glamour Magazine and Essie Weingarten of essie Cosmetics at TenOverTen Nail Salon in New York City. We previewed the Essie Winter 2011 nail color collection and were treated to manicured and mimosa’s. The Winter 2011 collection is inspired by jewelry and who doesn’t love that?

Like any great accessory, jewelry makes a statement. So I say, the bigger the better! Whether you wear rings, bangles, pendants or brooches—size matters!” says Essie Weingarten, founder of essie cosmetics. The same is true with color for Winter 2011—the bolder the better.

Out of the collection loved Bangle Jangle and Cocktail Bling. It was a touch choice but I ended up going for Essie’s Cocktail Bling which is a nod to the lavish jewels worn at holiday parties. The color is a gorgeous soft smokey grey with a hint of purple.

What do you think of the Essie Winter 2011 collection?

Review: Sally Hansen VitaSurge Cuticle Gel

August 16, 2011

Sally Hansen vitasurge cuticle gel review

I have a serious love for drugstores – you can always find tons of things that you need and things that you didn’t even know you needed!

On my last trip to Duane Reade I stopped in the nail supply aisle – mainly because I have a mild obsession with nail lacquers at the moment but also to see what’s new. Naturally there was a large Sally Hansen with many products that I never tried before. My eyes were soon drawn to a pretty orange bottle with tiny beads or as Sally Hansen refers to them, Micro-Encapsulated Vitamins, it was the Vita Surge Cuticle Gel.

Product Information:

Instantly condition and smooth cuticles! A fast-absorbing gel formula that nourishes dry, ragged cuticles. Leaves no color. Multi-active bead infused formula instantly releases a surge of nourishing Vitamin E and Botanical Extracts to condition and hydrate cuticles. Restores dry cuticles so they look and feel smooth and healthy.

APPLICATION TIPS: Shake gently. Apply daily over bare nails or dry nail color. Massage in with applicator or finger. Reapply as needed.

My cuticles get very dry and have desperately needed some TLC for a few weeks, so as soon as I got home, I cracked the bottle open. Immediately I noticed the light citrus-y scent which is a nice compliment to the orange gel color – not necessary or anything but just saying. Instead of a nail brush, Sally Hansen use soft doe foot applicator (about the same size used in a tube of lip gloss) which gives a broad application. The applicator is absorbent and holds enough product that you won’t need to keep dipping inside of the bottle.

The product information states that the product absorbs quickly but it actually take a little massaging to get the gel to absorb completely. After massaging the gel it, it does dry clearly and my cuticles are left much smoother and less dry looking. The scent of orange fades by the time that the gel dries. Overall I was pretty pleased with the results, for a quick cuticle moisturizer this does the trick and quite nicely I might add. I might just have to keep this one in my purse.

Looking Polished: China Glaze in 2Nite

August 6, 2011

China Glaze nail polish in 2nite

Today’s Looking Polished post is dedicated to China Glaze in 2Nite from the OMG collection. The shade 2Nite is deep Cornflower Blue with holographic prism effect. In the sunlight this color gives a beautiful rainbow effect.

Now I must admit that blue is not exactly my favorite shade in a nail polish but lately I’ve fallen for this color. In the right shade of blue nail polish you can have a modern yet elegant manicure. In fact one of my favorite colors of the moment is St-Tropez, a beautiful blue/green summer shade.

China Glaze 2nite from OMG collection

The polish application was fairly smooth but two coats are needed to give an solid finish, which is not uncommon with most polishes. The formula dries very quickly which is a plus.

I’m sorry to spread the bad news but this line was discontinued last year so maybe you can catch it on eBay.

How do you feel about glittery nail polish?

Looking Polished: Zoya Nail Polish in Lo

June 25, 2011

Zoya nail polish in Lo

Pink is absolutely my favorite color. Now my favorite colors have changed thoughout time but I’ve always loved the sheer femininity and girliness that pink gives. So when I came across a bright pink polish called Lo on the Zoya website i decided to order it. Lo by Zoya Nail Polish is from the Gossip collection and it’s an intense, highly pigmented pink with coral undertones. In other words it’s the perfect pink summer shade.

Zoya nail polish bottle Lo If the name of the shade sounds familiar it’s because the color was named after Lo Bosworth from MTV’s Laguna Beach and The Hills.

Zoya nail polish lo swatchZoya nail polishes never disappoints as far as consistency and opacity. The colors are true to the shade in the bottle so you always know what you are getting.

What are your thoughts on Lo? Is is the perfect summer shade or would you pass on the pink?
