At my recent trip to Sephora I picked up a jar of Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter Body Butter. I have a love for body butters because they hydrate dry skin so well. I heard quite a bit of buzz around the brand, Soap & Glory, although I’ve never tried any of their products. So when I saw the body butter I tossed it in my basket.
The body butter is designed for “Very Dry Skin” which I thought would be perfect for my legs. But to my disappointment the formula didn’t deliver. The first problem that I had with the product was the scent, it smells exactly like Baby Magic Baby Lotion, not exactly a scent that a woman of a certain age prefers to wear.
The formula is lightweight, almost as if the formula is whipped, that wouldn’t be an issue if the body butter hydrated well. It didn’t. The water based formula does contain shea butter and coconut oil but there is also a laundry list of other ingredients and most are unrecognizable. One of the ingredients listed is a paraben which caused me to look the product up on the Environmental Working Group database and this product is rated a 7, as in 7 out of 10. Not good.
These were the notations made on the Environmental Working Group database:
“Other HIGH concerns: Endocrine disruption, Persistence and bioaccumulation, Miscellaneous, Irritation (skin, eyes, or lungs), Contamination concerns, Occupational hazards“
“Other MODERATE concerns: Neurotoxicity, Organ system toxicity (non-reproductive), Biochemical or cellular level changes.”
Personally I would not use a product rated over a 4 or 5 on the Environmental Working Group database. So the fact that this product is rated so highly is a concern to me. Another issue is the fact this lotion can irritate skin which is a huge concern because this product is intended to be applied directly on the skin! So I’m going to pass on this product because there are healthier alternative to great skin, I recommend Belle Butters, an all natural skin care line.
