I attended a fragrance preview for Oscar de la Renta Essential Luxuries Collection. The collection of six fragrances is inspired by experiences and scents that have touched the life of Mr. de la Renta. One of the scents in this collection, Sargasso, was inspired by the Sargasso Sea, known for its distinctive marine vegetation. The seaweed that washes up on the beach at Mr. de la Renta’s home there, inspired him and he wanted to capture this essence in a fragrance. This was one of my favorite scents out of the collection, its fresh with notes of citrus and watery cucumber.
The other scents, Oriental Lace, Mi Corazón, Coralina, Santo Domingo and Granada have interesting stories behind them. Santo Domingo was inspired by the flowers, the colors and sunshine of the Dominican Republic, Mr. De la Renta’s birthplace. Oriental Lace was inspired by the textures of Oscar de la Renta’s runway collections. Mr. de la Renta wanted to create a fragrance for his daughter Eliza so he created Mi Corazón, this fragrance embodies his devotion to his family and his passion for gardening. Coralina drew inspiration from the Coralina stone, indigenous to the Dominican Republic. And Granada was inspired by an earl memory from a trip to Spain and the lush gardens of jasmine, roses and orange trees.
If you;re unsure of which fragrance to get, a quick digital quiz will help you pick a scent from the collection that best suites your style and personality. The scent that this quiz chose for me was Santo Domingo. It’s warm fragrance with notes of spicy mandarin and patchouli. It also can be worn by a man or a woman, I love that.
