Edition Georges Chakra S/S 2011

September 19, 2010

Edition Georges Chakra

Established in 1985 as a designer of customized gowns, the Edition Georges Chakra line has evolved into so much more. Georges Chakra is now an haute couture house that has dressed A-list celebrities such as Beyonce, Carrie Underwood, Katy Perry, Queen Latifah, Jennifer Lopez, Paris Hilton and Fergie. George Chakra prides himself on each collection being completely different from the previous collection. Chakra believes: “Everything is in the detail, luxury is in the details” and we couldn’t agree more.

Edition Georges Chakra

This was the first Edition Georges Chakra show that we’ve attended and this was by far one of the best collections of New York Fashion Week. Chakra has the ability to turn a little black dress into something nothing less than extraordinary; his incredible attention to beading and texture does not go unnoticed in his S/S 2011 collection. This collection featured mini dresses as well as floor length gowns in black, jewel tones, and metallic hues that were sophisticated and feminine.

“Chakra’s designs celebrate the woman’s body, and for the summer 2011 collection, the designer emphasized and sculpted the female form by surrounding it with a set of satin straps – sometimes parallel, other times crisscrossed – transforming his creations into glamorous and extremely contemporary looks.”

BCBGMAXAZRIA S/S 2011

September 17, 2010

It was all about the mini dress at BCBGMAXAZRIA S/S 2011 RTW show. BCBG was among the many designers to work the runway with the Spring neutral trend. The collection was chic and effortless glamour in shades of cream, charcoal and black with a few pops of vibrant canary, orange and red.

The neutral trend was given a Spring update with chic and effortless silhouettes. The dresses were white hot in crepe and silk with delicate chiffon details. Each dress was paired with white or python sandals.

One of the most outstanding colorful dresses was this canary yellow organza strapless embroidered dress. Stunning!

The grand finale piece was a black tulle embroidered gown., the detailing was exquisite.

Overall this ready to wear collection was lovely, featuring elegance dresses and gowns that can easily translate from day to night. The fluid dresses were simple yet beautiful with chiffon and embroidered detailing to add contrast the neutral and bold hues. Each outfit was very wearable and offered limitless options for any occasion.

New York Fashion Week Backstage: Lacoste S/S 2011

September 14, 2010

Lacoste

Here is a behind the scenes sneak peek at NY Fashion Week beauty: For the Spring 2011 Lacoste show on Saturday at the Lincoln Center Theatre, lead Redken hairstylist Luke Hersheson created a beautiful, sleek look that was inspired by Bo Derek’s braids in the 1970’s.  “This look is essentially a ponytail with a braid around the hairline; it gives a cute, fun, sexy edge to sportswear. The Body Full Volume Amplifier gives the braid great hold without becoming hard or sticky.” – Luke Hersheson

Lacoste 2011

Products Used:

·       Redken Body Full Volume Amplifier

·       Redken glass 01 smoothing serum

Lacoste 2011

Here are the steps for a DIY braid:

1.      Create a deep, straight side part, combing both sections very straight and clipping the smaller section back behind the ear.

2.      Spritz the larger section with Body Full Volume Amplifier, saturating the hair, especially at the back, so that it looks smooth and tight.

3.       At the part, start a small French braid that follows the hairline across the crown and then split it into two regular plaits after you can no longer add hair to the braid, and secure ends with mini elastics.

4.      Make a similar small French braid on the other side of the part following the same pattern, being sure to spritz first with the Body Full Volume Amplifier.

5.      Gather the hair and both braids into a tight side ponytail on the opposite side as the part.

6.      Give the look a sleek finish by smoothing glass 01 smoothing serum over the crown and braids.

Ports 1961 S/S 2011

September 14, 2010

On Day 2 of New York Fashion Week, I attended the Ports 1961 show. Designer Fiona Cibani drew inspiration for her collection from a trip to the Sahara. The gold and neutral tones were representative of the sand and blues were inspired by the desert sky. The collection was comprised of elegant loose fitting separates as well and long flowing evening gowns. Most of the pieces were neutrals however there was a “pop” of vibrant color added to remind us that it’s still Spring.

September 12, 2010

Fashion Week always brings out Hollywood royalty. Let’s see who we spotted in the tents at Lincoln Center!

Gird your loans because Anna Wintour was in the house at BCBGMAXAZRIA. She (and her bodyguard passed inches from me) and I channeled Rachel Zoe because I was about to D.I.E. this was EPIC.

Also spilling the Chai Tea in the front row at BCBGMAXAZRIA was stylist to the stars June Ambrose. *Swoon*
