Looking Polished: Do It Yourself Manicure

One of the easiest ways to maintain a polished appearance is to keep your nails manicured. It’s one of the least expensive beauty routines that you can indulge in to help spruce up your appearance. Beautifully manicured nails are as important as the clothes that you wear, after all you can’t turn of the TV or open a fashion magazine without viewing a woman with perfectly manicured fingernails. Polished nails are like the icing on the cake and better than therapy, they just make you feel good! As women getting our nails done has become almost an important ritual for all of the important things in our lives. Just think for a moment about all the times that we get our nails done ~ for a job interview, when we get engaged, on our wedding day, girls night out or even as a part of our weekly beauty routine.

Essie Nail Polish

I love getting my nails done at my favorite nail spa but sometimes I like to do my own nails. These are the steps that I take for an at home manicure:

1. Wash and dry your hands

2. Remove nail polish with a non-acetone remover. Even if you don’t have polished nails swiping your nails with remover is a good idea to remove the oils on your nails which can cause “bubbles” under the polish.

3. Trim nails, then file in square (or oval) shape. Try to avoid running that nail file back and forth to avoid weakening your nails.

4. Rub a little cuticle cream on (I like to use olive oil or vitamin e oil) to moisturize your cuticles and push them back with an orange stick (do not cut your cuticles).

5. Smooth your nails with a buffer so that the polish has a smooth surface to adhere to. I also like to buff my cuticles as well for a smoother appearance.

6. Apply a base coat.

7. Apply two coats of your favorite shade of nail polish. I’m using Essie Mink Muffs in the picture above.

8. Apply a clear top coat for that extra shine and to help your manicure last!

It usually takes my nails about 15 minutes to dry. I also run cold water my your fingernails to help dry my nails a tad be quicker so I usually do that after I’ve dried my nails for a few minutes. Lastly, I apply clear polish every few days to help my manicure last a bit longer and remain chip proof. I’d be curious to see what other ladies do when they give themselves at home manicures. Smell Deliciously Mischievous

Get ready to embrace the Spring season with a beautiful new fragrance from Chloé called Deliciously Mischievous.  Chloé  presents us with a feminine fragrance that has subtle hints of mandarin orange zest, freesia, watermelon with a touch sandalwood and fresh iris. This fragrance gives a very airy fresh floral scent that is not overly sweet. It’s perfectly elegant but certainly not your mothers perfume! The scent lingers deliciously for a long time so you do not need to reapply.  The bottle is a true luxury object adorned with an ivory-colored ribbon and I love the vintage feeling that the bottle gives.

This is easily going to be one of my new favorite new fragrances since I can wear anywhere. It’s light enough to wear tow work yet sexy enough to wear out at night. Be Kind and Be Fine to you Face

Cooling Peel off maskOnce  a week I like to treat my skin to facial mask for a little deep cleaning. Be fine makes beauty products that are Paraben free, Allergen Free and made from vegetable protein. The product that I tried was Be fine’s Cooling Peel Off Mask with Apple, Lemon & Green Tea. This mask cools instantly upon contact and felt tingly on my face (it didn’t sting). The apple and lemon have natural occurring alpha hydroxy acids to help remove impurities and support new skin growth. The green tea which nourishes your skin while helping to prevent free radicals which age your skin.

It took about 15 minutes for the mask to dry completely. Even after removing the mask my skin still felt tingly and also incredibly soft and smooth almost like I just exfoliated. My skin didn’t feel tight like I does when I sometimes try new facial cleansers. I also liked that the product contains many natural ingredients and that it’s not tested on animals. One things that I did notice was that my skin my slightly red after I took the mask off but the redness toned down after about 10 minutes – my skin still felt tingly as if I just came from a spa facial. Overall I loved the results and thought that the mask felt great and was very relaxing.

2010 MakeupLaura Mercier introduces us to a beautiful new limited edition face palette. This beautiful palette is called Zen Face Palette and includes 4 eye colours (Willow, Haze, Wisteria, and Midnight Jade), 4 lip glazes (Black Currant, Lotus Bloom, Stone Beige, and Peach Blossom) and 1 blush (Plum).

I think that this palette offers a pretty variety of Spring colors mixed with pretty packaging. A total package wouldn’t you agree? I am  anxious to try the black currant lip glaze and the Midnight Jade shadow, I think those two colors would be my favorite out of this collection. I love makeup palettes because they are so easy to travel with especially if you tote a small bag or a clutch. When I go out at night I often carry a small bag with me and I need an all in one so that I can touch up my makeup throughout the night so a palette is always a perfect choice for me.
