Add Variety to Your Straightened Hair with these 7 Hairstyles

May 21, 2017

Once you have pulled out your trusty Vibrastrait flat iron and straightened your messy hair to silky smoothness, you will be tempted to keep your hair down most of the time. However, after a while it can get quite boring to carry the same look everywhere you go. Besides, what’s the point of having beautiful hair if you don’t try out something new every once in a while?

In order to keep things interesting and trendy, check out the following list of hairstyles that are simply perfect for straight hair.

Sleek Pompadour

One of the easier ones on this list, the sleek pompadour is perfect for medium long, straightened hair, but even if you have shorter hair it will work just fine. Back brush your hair first and then use bobby pins to secure a half pony tail with a section of your hair. There are multiple variations of the pompadour that you can try out.

Braids

We admit that this one is a generalization rather than a specific hairstyle, but that’s the thing about having straight hair; you can try out as many braided hairstyles as you want, without too much difficulty or hair damage. We recommend the two-way Dutch braid or the woven braid-on-braid crown if you are feeling particularly majestic! A piece of advice, though; braids work best when your hair is long, or at least medium-long.

Unkempt Up-do

Deliberately messy and sexy at the same time, the unkempt up-do gives your hair that wild look, which you can accentuate with some beautiful flowers.

Tucked and Twisted

Take a portion of your hair and divide it into at least four sections with two on each side. Now interlace them at the back in a beautiful tucked in design while the remaining portion of your straight hair hangs down loose. Use bobby pins and hairspray as required.

Braided Headband

You have seen this one in the old Hollywood movies or classic book covers, but the plaited headband is still beautiful for women with lustrous long, straight hair. It’s basically just one braided headband with the rest of your hair hanging loose. Make sure that the braid doesn’t leave any loose hair sticking out at the front.

High Ponytail with a Crown

Inspired by Ariana Grande, this one differentiates itself from the usual high ponytail by cascading down from a braided crown of your own hair. Be sure to make the braids first and then use those braids to act as a royal hair band.

Sleek Half Up-do

Often worn by celebrities at red carpet events, the sleek half up-do is particularly easy to make if you already have straightened hair. Back brush your hair and then insert a portion of the hair that usually covers your ears behind the top layer of the hair at the back. Secure it with bobby pins and use hair spray as necessary to add shine and volume.

Admittedly, straight hair looks better if you have medium to long hair, as you have more styling options. This is not to say that you have no options if you have short straight hair; it’s just that the options become limited. Nevertheless, this list has a bit of something for everybody.

Glamorous Beach Babe – GREAT for evening

  • Blow-dry hair straight, removing all water
  • Section hair off
  • Take small pieces and heat up by passing an iron through the piece of hair rapidly, one time
  • Once hair is heated up, take iron and wrap hair in between the iron
  • Grab the end piece of the hair to ensure that it does not curl
  • Slowly move downward, applying pressure. Before reaching the end, let the hair go (leaving the ends straight)
  • Twirl the hair rapidly in the direction of the curl and then gently break it apart
  • Repeat these steps for each section until the whole head is complete
  • Once the whole head is complete, run fingers through the curls to even break them up

Danny Jelaca suggests adding the Balmain Dry Shampoo to add volume and make the hair smell fresh and clean. You can also layer in some Balmain Texturizing Salt Spray which will give your hair the perfect, effortless beachy waves.

Chic Mother’s Day Hairstyles!

April 27, 2016

With Mother’s Day right around the corner we’re reminded how busy Mom is always putting others first. Chasing around the kids and working shouldn’t mean sacrificing her looks. Here are FIVE quick and effortless dos for mom to try. Butterfly Studio Salon experts know how to work these hottest looks of the moment into any busy schedule. See below for step by step guides and images and let me know if you have any questions or would like to speak to a Butterfly stylist. Also let me know if you need additional images!

1.)    TOPSY TAIL PONY

Step 1 – Tie the hair in a low pony at the nape of your neck. This is easy for the days you want to impress by not making a big fuss at all.

Step 2 – Loosen the pony near the neck and make a gap in-between the two. Flip the pony in-between the two sides.

Step 3 – Do this twice giving beautiful twists and keeping the hair off the face.

Step 4 – This is how you do the Topsy Tail. Finish off this look with spraying the front with Loreal enette hair spray.

2.)    SIDE FRENCH BRAID

Step 1 – Part the hair from the side of the head and divide it into 3 pieces.

Step 2 – Working your way around the head every time, add a section from the inside to the braid. First time is hard and then easy to achieve.

Step 3 – When you get to the neck end, continue with a normal braid. With the other side section of the hair you can make a braid.

Step 4 – To finish off this look, twist the two and pin it up at the back.

3.)    TOP KNOT

Step 1 – All you need is elastic and a hair pin to create the perfect top knot.

Step 2 – Tie your hair back on top of your head.

Step 3 – Twist the hair in a bun on top of the head.

Step 4 – I like it when it looks slightly softer and not like a perfect ballet bun.

Step 1 – Twist back a small section of hair from one side of your head, and secure it with a pin in the middle of your head.

Step 2 – Twist back a small section of hair from the other side of your head, tuck it behind the first twisted section, and pin it in the middle of your head.

Step 1 – Pull hair into a low ponytail, then loosely braid the length of hair and secure with a clear elastic.

Step 2 – Wrap the braid around the base of the ponytail like you would a bun, tucking in the loose ends of hair with bobby pins.

The Top 5 Mistakes You’re Probably Making When You Straighten Your Hair

February 26, 2016

Style or curl your hair with a straightener

For years and years curly hair was the trendiest of styles but today most girls want straight locks with lots of volume. If you use a flat iron to straighten your hair, chances are you are making one or more of the following top mistakes that should be avoided at all costs. Take the time to learn exactly what you should be doing so as to avoid damaging and breaking your lovely but delicate hair.
1. Failing to Keep Flat Iron Clean
One of the biggest mistakes that many of us make is in failing to keep our flat irons cleaned. No matter how thoroughly you cleanse your hair prior to straightening it, there will be a certain amount of build up from natural oils in your hair and also from the conditioners you use after shampooing. A dirty flat iron can stick to your hair causing it to burn and break.
2. Pulling Hair Down
Another of the lesser-known but huge mistakes is to pull down too hard when straightening your hair. In so doing you will be making it lie too flat to the head and what you are looking for should be straight hair but hair with volume. Never pull down too hard when straightening your hair.
3. Using Wrong Hair Care Products
Just as bad as not cleansing hair care products from your hair or from the flat iron is in using the wrong kinds of products when shampooing or preparing your hair to be straightened with your iron. While there is no magic ingredient that will straighten your hair when shampooing or conditioning it, there are products on the market that will help those strands to lie flat. This makes it easier to straighten.
4. Setting the Temperature Too High or Too Low
It takes practice but eventually you can learn to get the temperature just right for your hair. If you get the setting too high you will be doing damage to your hair but if the setting is too low, you won’t get the straightening you are looking for. One thing to do is look at a variety of flat irons for natural hair to see which have the temperature controls you need. Check out deals on Beauty Plus Salon to find a flat iron with the features you need. You can shop their flat irons here to find what you are looking for.
5. Using a Flat Iron on Hair That Is Too Wet
Many ladies don’t realize just what they are doing to their hair when they try to use an iron on wet hair. Sometimes you can’t even feel that your hair is wet but you hear sizzling and steaming going on. If you hear this, stop immediately and dry your hair properly. Don’t burn your beautiful hair by using a hot iron on damp hair.

Although these are among the most common mistakes we make when using a flat iron to straighten our hair, there are numerous other things you should also avoid doing. You are looking to improve your appearance with natural looking straight hair so don’t do anything that could do damage. Start with these mistakes, correct them, and then learn what else you have been missing. By the time you’ve learned what to do and not to do, you will probably have the most beautiful hair of anyone in your circle of friends. Now that’s a nice thought, isn’t it?
