Lipstick & Luxury Loves Zen Society Skincare!

August 22, 2012

Zen Society Skincare

When Zen Society Skincare reached out to me for a review, I took a look at their website and I read that the founder is a Master Herbalist and that immediately appealed to me. I am a believer in Eastern medicine because it focuses on prevention rather than cure, unlike Western medicine. Zen Society believes in holistic alternative medicine, as do I, I’m a Reiki practitioner. The company is also committed to using 100% Pure ingredients with no preservatives and many of their products are 100% USDA certified organic.

I agreed to review a few of their products and I was sent a press sample of the Facial Starter Kit which includes: Tea Tree Facial Cleanser, Elder Berry Toner and Hydrating Rosewater Mist.

The gel based Tea Tree Facial Cleanser is created from a base of castile soap and USDA certified organic oils. From my very first use I was immediately impressed and to date this is my favorite cleanser, you can quote me on that! Not only was it gentle on my skin but after using the cleanser for a few days my skin was less irritated with no sign of breakouts (even though I always get them around this time of the month). After using the cleanser for one week, my acne improved significantly -people were asking me what I was using on my skin! The facial cleanser contains tea tree oil which has been found to be just as effective an Benzoyl Peroxide, minus the skin irritations. If you are prone to breakouts, buy this cleanser, you won’t regret it!

The Elder Berry Toner is alcohol-free toner made from a base of Lavender Water and Witch Hazel. The toner contains Elder berry extract which is known for its natural anti-aging effects. The toner was also gentle and did not burn my sensitive skin or dry it out, it just left it nicely balanced. I’d also like to mention that 100% of the ingredients in this product are USDA Certified Organic, Gluten, GMO Free and cruelty-free.

The final product in this kit is the Hydrating Rosewater Mist; my second favorite product out of the three. I’ve read about the benefits of rosewater for skin so I could not wait to try this out and it did not disappoint. Not only is rosewater soothing for sensitive skin but it also helps to strengthen skin cells and regenerates skin tissue. This rosewater mist smells incredibly beautiful and is also 100% USDA Certified Organic. I love using this as my toner or just as a pick me up after a long day, it leaves skin lightly hydrated and it smells like roses – you can’t go wrong with that.

Overall I am incredibly impressed with Zen Society Skincare and I can’t wait to try more of their products. Zen Society Skincare is great company that really does the right thing by using the best ingredients, signing the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics agreement and not testing on animals. They also donate a percentage of every sale to Friends of the Earth, the world’s largest grassroots foundation, to help fight for sustainability (www.foe.org). How eco-fabulous is that? I really can’t say enough about this skincare line, it works well, it’s great for your skin and they give back to the earth. What’s not to love?! Have you tried any Zen Society Skincare products?

Review: Badger Cuticle Soothing Shea Butter Cuticle Care

May 11, 2012

Badger Cuticle Soothing Shea Butter Cuticle Care

Badger is a company that I have recently fallen is love with, they have a cute mascot, they’re cruelty-free and they’re USDA certified organic. What’s not to love? Badger creates healthy beauty products that stand above other brands in terms of safer ingredients, they do not use ingredients that have been treated with growth hormones, synthetics or GMO’s.

Badger Cuticle Care balm that contains Shea Butter, one of my favorite ingredients and nourishing Seabuckthorn CO2 extract.  It’s scented naturally with essential oils like Geranium, Mandarin, Lemongrass and Ginger. I mostly smell the Lemongrass which I love because it’s so fresh and clean.

Badger Cuticle Soothing Shea Butter Cuticle Care ingredients

Ingredients: Wild African Shea Butter, Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Organic), Castor (Ricinus Communis) Seed Oil, Beeswax (Apis Mellifera), Sea Buckthorn Berry Extract, Essential Oil of Geranium, Ginger, Cardamom (Cardamomum) Seed, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary), Litsea Cubeb (Litsea Cubeba), Citrus Reticulata (Mandarin Orange), Lemongrass (Cymbopogon Schoenanthus)

This cuticle balm is great for daily use especially after washing your hands. If you’re like me and you wash your hands all several times per day, which can dry out your cuticles, then using a little cuticle balm to keep cuticles from becoming dry and ragged is essential. I also like to slather a little bit of Badger Cuticle Care on my nail beds if I’m not wearing any nail polish. It really helps to nourish my nails plus it makes them shiny like they’re polished! The balm, packaged in cute round decorative tin, lists the product expiration date on the side to remind you when it’s time to toss it out. Very handy!

Having a cuticle nail treatment in your purse is a nice way to refresh yourself at the end of the day or before an important event when you don’t have time for a manicure. Sometimes I use pure Vitamin E oil to moiturize my cuticles but it’s not always convenient to carry it with me so this is a nice less messy alternative.

Have you used Badger Cuticle Care, what are your thoughts?
