How to Keep Your Hair Looking Great When You Hit the Beach!

May 19, 2016

How to Keep Your Hair Looking Great When You Hit the Beach!
Summer is definitely nearly here, and beach time will soon be upon us! Many of us spend a lot of time and effort on being beach ready, whether it is working out and dieting as soon as spring starts to get that bikini body, or taking care of skin and building up a base tan (real or fake). However, while we focus on our figures and getting our skin nicely exfoliated, moisturized and glowing, it is important not to forget about hair!

Whether you live by the coast and the beach is a daily part of life for you in summer or you are planning a beach vacation, regular exposure to hot sun, along with swimming, can leave you hair in worse condition. With some preparation and care, you can keep it looking soft and silky, and ready to be the perfect accessory for your favorite bikini or tankini bathing suit this summer. Here are some tips:

Don’t Brush It After Swimming in the Ocean

If for you, a trip to the beach involves a lot of fun in the ocean swimming, playing around with friends or doing your favorite watersports, it pays to get used to rocking the ‘surfer hair’ look when you get out if you aren’t able to immediately shower and wash the sea water out. Sea water is not particularly damaging to hair on its own – it’s just water and salt – but as your hair dries in the sun the salt can have a serious drying effect.

You can recover from this when you get to wash your hair with a good conditioner, but while you’re still out at the beach, ignore the temptation to brush it – even when it is dry. Your hair will be dry, stiff and a bit sticky from the salt water, and brushing will cause major breakages. Brushing is also liable to make your hair look super frizzy. This means that if you have long hair, you can either choose to let it look messy and bohemian – the surfer look – or choose a style like a braid that will keep it in place. Messy beach hair looks really good when you are actually at the beach, giving you a cool, summery look, but if you are planning to go somewhere else before you have a chance to wash your hair, a braid is your best friend!

Sunscreen for Your Hair!

Most people now take protecting their skin and eyes from the sun very seriously, but what about hair? Obviously exposing your hair to the sun isn’t going to give you cancer or damage your eyesight, but as you probably know from using heated styling products, heat is not good for hair. You can protect it with a good heat protection spray, much as you might use before blow drying or using other heated styling tools. As well as applying after washing your hair, carry the spray in your beach bag. A good rule of thumb is to apply it whenever you apply sun lotion, so before actually going out in the sun to begin with, and then every few hours, and immediately after going in the water.

Conditioner and Keratin

Once you do get a chance to wash your hair after the beach, give it a little more love than usual when it comes to conditioner. Your hair gets lighter in the sun, and it is no coincidence that just like bleaching with peroxide, this actually leaves it dry and more damage prone. Use a rich conditioner every day and also, use a weekly mask or hot oil treatment to give it a little extra nourishment. You can do this more than once a week if you want, there really isn’t a maximum amount of times to use these treatments, but if the expense and time bothers you then weekly is enough. It is also a good idea to use an additional keratin treatment, and for best results, leave this in your hair rather than using after conditioner and washing it out. This will add protein to your hair which will help strengthen it and both hide and repair damage.

It really doesn’t take much effort to keep your hair in good shape when you hit the beach. Just be careful how you treat your hair when it’s been in the water, protect it, and help it out with some good conditioning products when you get home, and your hair can look and feel great all summer long!

What Makes a Man Choose Laser Hair Removal Over Waxing

March 22, 2016

Laser hair removal for men

Every adult has been faced with the same question: wax or shave? You would think that the above question would only be one that women were plagued with. But women aren’t the only one’s covered in hair, are they? So wouldn’t it make sense that both women AND men could potentially find themselves in a situation with unwanted hair?

The resources available for women on any sort of personal hygiene question are endless; they simply have to open up any social media website and they’ll instantly be bombarded with ideas, facts, and hacks to cosmetically better themselves.

For men, those resources simply don’t exist. And it’s not from a lack of need for these resources. Men need these resources, too. They have skin, hair, and nails to take care of as well.

Going back to the original question: wax or shave?

How about neither?

Thanks to the beauty of technology and innovation, there are many ways to remove the unwanted hair in our lives. You obviously already know about shaving, waxing, and hair removal cream. And for one reason or another, you’ve decided that you’re sick of any or all of these options. Shaving can be a nuisance, you have to do it almost every single day, and it makes the hair grow back coarser and darker than before. Especially if you’re needing to shave a hard to reach place, such as your back, this option gets annoying very quickly.

You already hate hair removal cream; it smells horrid, and doesn’t always do its job. Which brings you to waxing. Which is incredibly painful, and you have to let the hair grow in to a considerable length before you can go get waxed again.

If it’s an area that you know you’re never going to want hair again, why aren’t you getting that hair permanently removed?

Laser hair removal at places like Therapie Clinic has been around for a while, but for some reason, it’s not getting a lot of attention. And the attention it does get, is almost purely female. But to be perfectly honest, for a man it’s a lot less embarrassing to get laser hair removal once, than to go get waxed every four to six weeks for the rest of your life.

So here’s why you should consider getting laser hair removal, rather than getting waxed:

At first, you’ll be put off by how much laser hair removal can cost. However, a lot of companies regularly run promotions and deals that will significantly lower the cost of the procedure. Another thing to consider is that waxing isn’t exactly inexpensive either, and if you combine the cost of what you spend on waxing over a twelve-month period, it will probably end up being more money than one session of laser hair removal.

It’s permanent. Some people have to go in for a follow up, to get it done a second time, making sure that all of the hair is really gone. This is only because every single person has different reactions, different hair growth patterns, and there’s no way to tell how your specific body will react. That being said, the need for a follow up appointment isn’t always necessary.

It isn’t really more painful than waxing is. No one will ever dare utter “waxing doesn’t hurt” because it’s a flat out lie. Waxing is painful; you’re ripping the hair out of the follicle, reaching below the surface of your skin. Some areas are more sensitive than others, and while it’s true that the more frequent the waxing the more tolerant your skin becomes, it still never becomes painless. Getting laser hair removal may sound incredibly painful, but compared to getting waxed regularly, the pain difference between the two is definitely marginal.

Laser Hair removal can be done anywhere on the body. While the same can be said for waxing, certain individual areas are naturally more difficult to reach and remove the hair from. It can make the hair removal process incredibly painful and undesirable. And if they miss a spot while waxing, you run the risk of damaging your skin if they have to wax the same area more than once in a single appointment. You just simply don’t have that same issue with laser hair removal.

In the end, when the evidence is stacked up, Laser Hair Removal has more pros than cons, and the benefits outweigh those of getting waxed regularly. You’ll probably end up spending less on hair removal if you chose the laser route, you’ll experience less pain, and you’ll easily lose your unwanted body hair and the natural annoyance that accompanies it. So, what are you waiting for?

How to Get Rid of Varicose Veins for Good

March 7, 2016

How to Get Rid of Varicose Veins for Good

It was once thought that varicose veins were something that happened to older women (and men!) but never to younger ladies in their late twenties and thirties. Actually, varicose veins can strike women of almost any age and to anyone who has them, they are thought to be one of the least desirable features. When a woman has varicose veins she is unlikely to put on a swimsuit to go to the beach, wear capris length pants or even wear a knee length dress. Even if she has the shapeliest legs imaginable, those unsightly veins will prevent her from showing a little leg.

Cause of Varicose Veins

Just as cardiovascular disease can strike anyone of any age, even though more common as we grow older, varicose veins can be symptomatic of vascular disease. Veins all have valves that open one-way only and when those valves fail, blood pools without returning to the heart as it should. The end result is swelling and veins that appear to have burst. This usually happens in the legs because those are the areas farthest from the heart and because of gravity, it is much harder for the body to pump blood back to the heart.

Are There Natural Remedies to Varicose Veins?

While there are a number of products on the market that claim to be effective in the treatment of varicose veins, few are really what they claim to be. In many cases they are nothing more than a supplement known to thin the blood. It is thought that by thinning the blood, the body would not need to work so hard and that blood could be pumped through the valve much easier. To some extent this might be effective, but usually treatment by a medical professional would be much, much more effective.

Medical & Surgical Procedures for Varicose Veins

When you go to a valid professional vein treatment center such as the Metropolitan Vein and Aesthetic Center in New York, there are a number of procedures which have verifiable results. You may be asked to wear compression stockings (hose) that help reduce the effects of gravity, literally pushing the blood back up the leg. Other times minimally invasive procedures such as Microphlebectomy can be used to remove the affected vein yielding great cosmetic and healthful results.

Other times a medical procedure called Sclerotherapy is performed which involves injections with a tiny needle that literally cause the affected veins to swell to such an extent that they stick together and become unnoticeable within a few weeks. This not only reduces pain but also improves the appearance, ridding the leg of those spider veins that are so unsightly.

If you are suffering from varicose veins, chances are they are not painful but just ugly to look at. Even so, some people do experience a significant amount of pain due to swelling and it isn’t until the veins are removed with Microphlebectomy or closed off with Sclerotherapy that levels of pain are reduced. Are there ‘natural’ remedies? None have been conclusively proven so it is always best to trust you doctor if you want to rid your legs of those oftentimes twisted and ugly purple varicose veins.
