Tulip Nail Art from Jin Soon Choi

Mother’s Day is this weekend so why not treat yourself to a beautiful manicure?! This tulip inspired Nail Art from Jin Soon Choi is the perfect way to celebrate the special day while spoiling yourself with a pretty manicure. The combination or JINsoon Dolly Pink and JINsoon Cherry Berry nail polish shades perfectly compliment one another and are reminiscent of spring flowers. This manicure is a simple DIY pattern that you can easily try at home. Here are the steps:

How-To:

  1. File and shape your nails to a natural square shape.
  2. Apply a base coat like JINsoon Power Coat.
  3. Apply JINsoon Dolly Pink on the entire nail bed.
  4. With a thin brush, create the tulip petals with JINsoon Cherry Berry.  Starting at the cuticle area, draw a straight line down towards the tip of the nail, curving left ¾ of the way down to create an arch and then fill in the shape.  Repeat on the right side of the same nail to create a mirroring shape.
  5. Apply top coat like JINsoon Top Gloss for a lasting glossy finish.

Fall Trend: Nail Art Craze

November 2, 2012

Aztec Nail Art from Free The People

A considerably popular trend in America, I have yet to encounter some cool nail art amongst my fellow Canadians. However, I am thoroughly fascinated with this trend because I think it is awesome to use your nails as another form of expressing individuality.

I have perused through many photos of nail art, from the sublime (yes, I have seen works of art on nails) to the downright crazy (Will and Kate photos on nails), and I am now tempted to find a decent design to embellish my usually neutral colored nails.  The process is pretty easy when it comes to application of nail art. It involves polish, mani/pedi and decorations. The labor is far more intricate when it comes to precise placement of each decorative piece.

Oo lala Ciate.

Yes, it is to say that cleanliness is godliness, and when it comes to nails, it speaks a lot about who you are. At the same token, I think it is nice to funkify your look, go wild without being so blatantly obvious, and for a far lesser price. Check out this gallery here of Olympic nail art to get you inspired!

Looking Polished: Mermaid Nails Interpreted

August 27, 2011

One of the biggest nail trends for Fall 2011 is nail art. Now I’ll admit that in the past I have not been a huge fan of nail art but I’ve come across a few DIY nail designs that are simply too irresistible to pass up trying at home. One design that I fell for was the Mermaid Nails design posted on Cupcakes and Cashmere. My take on this nail tutorial is to swap out the blue glitter for gold and try the design on all of my nails.

Step 1. Apply base coat, let dry.

Step 2. Apply watery-blue color of your choice, I chose Dior Vernis in St. Tropez.

Step 3.  Add topcoat to glitter nail polish in a dish and apply mixture to the bottom half of your nail bed. (I wanted more graduated rather than intense gold sparkles ).

Step 4. Apply top coat and enjoy!

Final result!

I’m still working on technique but so far I love it the combination of the a bit of glitter on top of a soft blue. Very beach-y and a perfect way to transition out of Summer into Fall. Would you give this nail trend a try?
