New York Fashion Week Beauty: Essie for Jenny Packham S/S 16

September 14, 2015

With designs that always strike attention, Jenny Packham’s SS 16′ collection will keep individuals talking.

Packham’s collection included beautiful dresses that would be perfect for a celebrity’s red carpet look. Clothing filled with plenty of glitz, glamour and GLITTER!

Jenny Packham‘s Spring/Summer 2016 collection was directly inspired by the music of Nick Cave and PJ Harvey. To complement the earthy, ethereal vibe, Rita Remark for essie, the brand’s new Global Lead Educator, chose two nail looks: a standout bright blue to add an element of fun, and a soft, sheer pink that perfectly paired with the gowns.

NAILS:

To go with the look Jenny had her models use nail polish by Essie. The colors were a bold blue, called “good to go”. Those who did not sport this statement of a color went with more of a neutral shade called “adore-a-ball”. This pinkish color also went on the models toes, giving them a very neutral pedi to go with their shoes – Christian Louboutin’s of course.

 Essie nail products used:

  • first base base coat
  • adore-a-ball
  • butler please
  • good to go top coat

Get the look (bright blue; pictured below):

  1. Apply first base base coat to clean, filed nails
  2. Next, apply two coats of butler please
  3. Finish with good to go top coat

MAKE-UP:

The look for the afternoon was created by Talia Sparrow for Laura Mercier. Sparrow added an extra strike of beauty to the models with her make-up craft. Creating a “made for the runway” torqousie blue eye shadow, which was made just for the show. Models showcased their natural skin tone for a more youthful look with added highlights to the face, creating a gold tone to their faces. To top off the look Sparrow had the models sport a bold red lip, which also went perfect with the shoes, matching the famous red bottoms.

Looking Polished: Essie Sole Mate

May 28, 2011

Essie Sole Mate Nail Polish

As I’ve said before, one of easiest ways to looking polished is to keep your nails manicured. So I try to get my nails done at least once a week or do a quick at home manicure if I’m short on time. Like most women I like to switch up my nail polish depending on my mood. This week I’m feeling a little dark so I opted for deep sultry red in Essie Sole Mate.

Essie Sole Mate is described as a deep plum shade but from the swatch it appears to be more of a red. What do you think?

Looking Polished: Do It Yourself Manicure

March 3, 2010

One of the easiest ways to maintain a polished appearance is to keep your nails manicured. It’s one of the least expensive beauty routines that you can indulge in to help spruce up your appearance. Beautifully manicured nails are as important as the clothes that you wear, after all you can’t turn of the TV or open a fashion magazine without viewing a woman with perfectly manicured fingernails. Polished nails are like the icing on the cake and better than therapy, they just make you feel good! As women getting our nails done has become almost an important ritual for all of the important things in our lives. Just think for a moment about all the times that we get our nails done ~ for a job interview, when we get engaged, on our wedding day, girls night out or even as a part of our weekly beauty routine.

Essie Nail Polish

I love getting my nails done at my favorite nail spa but sometimes I like to do my own nails. These are the steps that I take for an at home manicure:

1. Wash and dry your hands

2. Remove nail polish with a non-acetone remover. Even if you don’t have polished nails swiping your nails with remover is a good idea to remove the oils on your nails which can cause “bubbles” under the polish.

3. Trim nails, then file in square (or oval) shape. Try to avoid running that nail file back and forth to avoid weakening your nails.

4. Rub a little cuticle cream on (I like to use olive oil or vitamin e oil) to moisturize your cuticles and push them back with an orange stick (do not cut your cuticles).

5. Smooth your nails with a buffer so that the polish has a smooth surface to adhere to. I also like to buff my cuticles as well for a smoother appearance.

6. Apply a base coat.

7. Apply two coats of your favorite shade of nail polish. I’m using Essie Mink Muffs in the picture above.

8. Apply a clear top coat for that extra shine and to help your manicure last!

It usually takes my nails about 15 minutes to dry. I also run cold water my your fingernails to help dry my nails a tad be quicker so I usually do that after I’ve dried my nails for a few minutes. Lastly, I apply clear polish every few days to help my manicure last a bit longer and remain chip proof. I’d be curious to see what other ladies do when they give themselves at home manicures. What are your secrets?
