Favorite things: Korres Natural Skincare and Cosmetics

January 12, 2013

Korres has been one of my favorite skincare and cosmetic brands for a few years now, particularity because they are an all natural and herbal brand. The company was founded in Greece around two decades ago, and they remain to be the “fastest-growing natural skincare company.”

The Korres brand makes all of their products without harsh chemicals, uses all natural and herbal ingredients, helps organic farmers, supports local communities and protects natural resources around the world.

The brand is sold in stores worldwide, as well as in both Sephora and Ulta and sells for $35.00. I recently purchased a Moisturizer, which is one of my staple skincare items. Korres Natural Products Wild Rose 24-Hour Moisturizing & Brightening, Normal to Dry Skin is a 24-hour moisturizer and brightening cream. This moisturizer is made with Wild Rose Oil and all natural Vitamin C, said to reduce the appearance of fine lines and skin discoloration while leaving the skin fresh, hydrated and bright all day long. I use this cream once every morning underneath my make up, and the scent is enough to sell you! With just a dime-sized amount, the cream melts right into your skin and I instantly feel the softness and delicateness on my face.

Korres has made a brightening and moisturizing line of Wild Rose products called the Wild Rose Regimen Kit  it includes a Serum, Cleanser, Eye Cream and a mask. Very luxurious!

This moisturizer, like all of Korres products, are made with:

No mineral oil, no silicones, no parabens, no propylene glycol, no synthetic dyes, no retinol, and no animal by-products and animal testing!

Have you tried Korres skincare products or cosmetics?

Getting Lippy: Korres Jasmine Lip Butter

November 15, 2011

Korres Jasmine lip butter review

Keeping my lips moisturized is a big concern for me in the cold winter months. So I literally keep lip balms all over the place…in my office, in all of my handbags and of course anywhere I go. I like to try different lips balms because you never know if there is something else that might work better than what you already have. Besides there are different lip balms for different lip care needs. Sometimes I want intense hydration and other times I want light moisture with a hint of color. It all depends on my needs and sometimes my mood.

I’ve read about Korres Lip Butters and the reviews were pretty good. But just because a product works for one person, doesn’t mean that it’s going to work for everyone else. But I was adventurous and it only costs $12 – so I was in. Korres is a natural skincare brand and I’ve tried many of their other products before so that’s another reason why I decided to give this lip butter a try. Korres stays away from harmful ingredients such as:

  • Parabens
  • Sulfates
  • Synthetic Fragrances
  • Petrochemicals
  • Phthalates
  • GMOs
  • Triclosan

Korres Lip Butter

This lip butter contains Shea butter and rice wax to provide hydration and softness. These “butters” come in seven shades including clear (Guava). I chose Jasmin which is supposed to be a sheer neutral pink but on my complexion it appears to be more of a milky pink – not attractive. If you rub it in a bit the lip butter provides a nice sheen but I still wouldn’t wear it alone. The texture is very creamy so a little definitely goes a very long way and the moisture payoff is great. This little balm does moisturize dry lips quite quickly which is what you want in a balm during cold weather season. What’s your favorite lip balm?

Korres, Lip Butters, $12. Exclusively available at Sephora.

Four Tips For Glowy, Happy Winter Skin

January 11, 2011

As temperatures plummet, oftentimes so does the condition of your skin. Before you even step out into the frigid, windy air, the effects of winter on your face can frequently be seen and felt. But there are a few simple measures you can take to prevent the worst ravages of Jack Frostian climates on your delicate visage.

1: Cleanse gently. Consider switching to a cleanser that dissolves makeup and oil with a creamy or even oil base rather than a sudsy wash. Shu Uemura’s oil cleansers are legendary among makeup artists for their amazing clean finish despite a rich texture. Applied to dry skin, they gently foam with the addition of water and leave your face incredibly fresh. Oil cleansers can even, counter-intuitively, balance oily skin by breaking down sebum effectively.

2. Exfoliate. It may seem like scheduled scrubbing is less necessary when skin is drying out or dehydrating due to the cold, but in actuality, moisture can’t get deep into skin without regular removal of icky dead skin and stagnant oils. Even oily skin can become dehydrated and feel dry- which seems totally unfair when you’re still getting blackheads. A manual scrub is great to remove dead skin flakes (like Korres’ Pomegranate Scrub), but an enzyme based face wash or treatment can use gentle ingredients to exfoliate, too. (Philosphy’s Microdelivery Mini Peel Pads are a mild chemical exfoliant.)

3. Moisturize harder! Light moisturizers can suddenly disappear into thirsty winter skin, and even if you’re worried about clogging pores, you might need a stronger option in dry winter weather. Dry oils, like rosehip seed, can nourish and protect your skin and lock in much-needed moisture. A few drops of a product like Aubrey Organics Rose Hip Seed Oil on dehydrated areas can soothe and protect skin against windburn and other cold-weather pitfalls.

4. Don’t forget about your hands. Before my face ever starts showing symptoms of winter strain, I see signs of stress on my frequently washed hands. While skin is still a little damp, liberally apply a thick cream to the tops of hands every time you wash. L’Occitane’s Honey Orange Shea Butter is nice (with a pretty tin), but even the decidedly less sexy Aquaphor will keep hands from chapping and drying out.

Last but not least, don’t cast aside your SPF- sun can even reflect off snow and damage skin. But with a few preventative steps, you can keep skin (and makeup!) looking smooth and glowy in the coldest, most blustery winter days.
