New York Fashion Week Beauty: Essie for Delponzo S/S 16

September 18, 2015

I had the great opportunity to go backstage at the Delponzo s/s 16 show thanks to Essie

Here are the runway trends that will be big come spring!

Inspired by the holographic embellishments found throughout Delpozo‘s Spring/Summer 2016 collection, Julie Kandalec for essie created a confetti nail look by adding two coats of sparkle on top to the nails. The subtle luminescent glitter stands out on the runway against the garments.

To complement the colorful collection, essie created a coral half-moon nail using tart deco and matte about you on the hands. To complete the overall look, she used one coat of limo-scene on the toes.

Get the Look (Manicure):
1. Apply fist base base coat to clean, filed nails.

2. Next, apply tart deco in a semi circle at the base of the nail.

3. Once dry, apply matte about you.

Get the Look (Feet):
1. Apply first base base coat to clean, filed nails.

2. Next, apply one coat of limo-scene.

3. Follow with good to go top coat.

New York Fashion Week Beauty: Essie for Jenny Packham S/S 16

September 14, 2015

With designs that always strike attention, Jenny Packham’s SS 16′ collection will keep individuals talking.

Packham’s collection included beautiful dresses that would be perfect for a celebrity’s red carpet look. Clothing filled with plenty of glitz, glamour and GLITTER!

Jenny Packham‘s Spring/Summer 2016 collection was directly inspired by the music of Nick Cave and PJ Harvey. To complement the earthy, ethereal vibe, Rita Remark for essie, the brand’s new Global Lead Educator, chose two nail looks: a standout bright blue to add an element of fun, and a soft, sheer pink that perfectly paired with the gowns.

NAILS:

To go with the look Jenny had her models use nail polish by Essie. The colors were a bold blue, called “good to go”. Those who did not sport this statement of a color went with more of a neutral shade called “adore-a-ball”. This pinkish color also went on the models toes, giving them a very neutral pedi to go with their shoes – Christian Louboutin’s of course.

 Essie nail products used:

  • first base base coat
  • adore-a-ball
  • butler please
  • good to go top coat

Get the look (bright blue; pictured below):

  1. Apply first base base coat to clean, filed nails
  2. Next, apply two coats of butler please
  3. Finish with good to go top coat

MAKE-UP:

The look for the afternoon was created by Talia Sparrow for Laura Mercier. Sparrow added an extra strike of beauty to the models with her make-up craft. Creating a “made for the runway” torqousie blue eye shadow, which was made just for the show. Models showcased their natural skin tone for a more youthful look with added highlights to the face, creating a gold tone to their faces. To top off the look Sparrow had the models sport a bold red lip, which also went perfect with the shoes, matching the famous red bottoms.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week SS 2013: Backstage at Creatures of the Wind

September 11, 2012

Makeup by NARS for Creatures of the Wind SS 2013

Kicking off Mercedes-Benz Fashion week, I was able to go backstage of Creatures of the Wind at Milk Studios to get a closer look at all the Nars products being used for the show! Nars Director of Global Artistry, James Boehmer, schooled us on the colors and techniques used for the show. Boehmer said the inspiration for the theme came from a “Japanese Godzilla movie”, which he further explained to be an idea of “a monstrous beauty”.

Boehmer explained how the products he used created a simple look that was “not too made up and not too heavy”, because of the emphasis they wanted on the hair and clothes. For him, the look was all about illumination, balance, and softness. As Boehmer demonstrated on a model, he explained the Nars products and colors he used.

-Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer

-Nars Lipstick in “Fire Down Below”, applied just in the center of the lips

-Nars Mascara on top and bottom lashes

-Nars smudge-proof eyeshadow base

-Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in “Damned”, applied on the eyelids

For hair, the models were all styled with Keratase products for a straight look with an origami inspiration. All models had pin straight hair, prepped with hairspray and a flat iron.

For nails, models wore Essie’s “Topless and Barefoot”, a solid rosy beige sealed with their “Matte About You ” as a top coat.

What do you think of this Creatures of the Wind look?

Behind the Scenes: Essie for Pamela Love SS12

September 12, 2011

Essie for Pamela Love nail tutorial
At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week there is always so much more to look at than the clothes. Manicures have become the newest beauty craze and art form. And these beautiful designs were all over the runways for Spring 2012. The nail look created be Elle Gerstein for Pamela love was inspired by the bohemian Moroccan theme of the Essie Nail Polish collection.

“We drew inspiration from the reverse chevron french manicure, which exposes the nail’s natural moon, from the tribal graphic element of the clothing and the triangular jewelry paired with the collection.”

Here’s how you can create this fashion week look:

Step 1 – Paint the entire nail bed with a base coat.

Step 2 – Apply Essie Topless and Barefoot, an opaque matte nude. Let dry.

Step 3 – The use Essie’s Little Brown Dress, a chocolate brown shade, and paint a diagonal from each corner of the nail bed to create a tiny triangle. Start on either side of the nail brushing up to the middle on the diagonal and then reverse to complete the “V” formation.

Step 4. Let dry and apply a shiny top coat.

Would you try this nail polish look?

Looking Polished: Essie in Sew Psyched

August 17, 2011

Essie Sew Psyched nail polish swatch

This week we’re all over Essie in Sew Psyched from the Fall 2011 collection. Essie describes this shade is as a cashmere-soft sage pewter. This color reminds me a bit of Chanel Le Vernis 247 Khaki Vert but just a bit darker. Sew Psyched has a subtle silver shimmer that didn’t quite translate onto the nail but still pretty none-the-less. The color looks more like a creme even though it has shimmer to it.

Essie nail polish Sew Psyched review and swatch

I tested the shade without using a base or top coat and was pretty impressed with the results, a smooth and even application.  I was also pleasantly surprised at how pigmented this polish is, it took just one coat to achieve full opaque coverage. Essie Sew Psyched it a winner, this is my favorite Essie shade so far.

What nail polish color are you wearing today?
