Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week FW 2013: Backstage at Christian Siriano

INSPIRATION: Inspired by the Mariinsky Theater in Russian, Siriano created a collection that his muse would wear to the Russian opera: full of elegance, opulence, and a cold, strong aesthetic.

FASHION – The Christian Siriano Fall/Winter 2013 collection incorporated ornate beading, thick faux furs, black velvet, brocade and lots of gold. From slouchy pants in leather and silk, to intricate shift dresses, short capes, fur trimmed coats, cigarette pants and a hint of structured peplum, Siriano dressed his muse from day to night. Trends included luxe jogging pants, brocade heels, and ethereal, sheer fabrics.

HAIR – The hair was parted in the center, and tightly fishbraided down each side before twisted into an updo at the nape of the neck. Antoinette Beenders, the Global Creative Director at Aveda, created the look to compliment the rich, luxiourious clothes.

MAKEUP – The makeup look at Christian Siriano was created by makeup artist Polly Osmond, and featured a dark smoky eye and contoured cheek, in order to keep with the cold, strong, Russian inspiration.

Christian Siriano’s Spring 2012 show was full of all the vibrant colors that scream warm weather: lime green, bright corals and even fire engine red. The designer’s collection truly paid homage to the sophisticated woman—think long, flowy skirts belted with T-shirts for some fun, suits with cropped silk pants, and not to forget the dresses.

There’s only one word to capture the essence of the dresses Siriano worked into the collection: dramatic. Feathers, ruffles and tulle were the focus of Siriano’s dresses, which varied from cocktail party-appropriate to more red carpet-friendly options. It was a show to remember.

Christian Siriano Fashion Week 2011

Black was the new black at the Christian Siriano F/W 2011 show. The Project Runway phenom has shown us once again why he reigned supreme in the fashion showdown. For the Fall we’re transported away from the neutrals of Spring into the dark and lush colors of the winter season. The collection was stark and black but not boring. Siriano mixed it up with pairing of leather, chiffon, silk cashmere and no shortage of embellishment.

The show began with edgy tailored pieces and quickly moved into whimsical ball gowns with full sheer skirts and lots of texture. There were simpler pieces that caught my eye like long tulip skirt paired with a long sleeve turtleneck (above).

The collection also featured moss greens including additional sheer pieces and evening gowns. Siriano has shown us his more elegant side with the heavy use of class black, silk and chiffon. The pieces are striking and there was barely anything that could be considered basic black. I absolutely loved the collection and it was hard to keep my eyes off the runway.
