The Skin Care Benefits of Tea Tree Oil!

April 20, 2012

Skin care benefits of tea tree oil for acne

There are so many natural remedies available to treat our ailments but just don’t know about all of them. We often to to drugstores and doctors for every ailment that we have, I know that I used to. But I often wondered what people did thousands of years ago. When ancient people had skin care problems like acne, what did they do? Well according to WebMD Australian aborigines used tea tree oil traditionally as a remedy for a multitude of skin problems. Tea tree oil has been used to treat conjunctivitis, acne, boils, impetigo, psoriasis, dandruff, cuts and abrasions, ringworm are various other conditions.

Other uses for tea tree oil:

  • Moisturizer and cleanser: The tea tree oil can be used as a moisturizer and cleanser. It opens clogged pores and clears bacteria from the skin surface. Tea tree oil is a great cleanser and it helps to remove dead cells without causing any harm to the skin.
  • Antioxidant: Tea tree oil is great antioxidant because it controls the free radicals in the body and boosts the production of collagen. And we all know that collagen production leads to plump youthful looking skin!
  • Treatment for dandruff: Tea tree oil can help to control dandruff, just rinse hair with a mixture of warm water and a few drops of tea tree oil help keep the flakes at bay.

When I read that tea tree oil can be used to treat acne I decided to but some and try it out. I also read that Tea tree oil was as effective as benzoyl peroxide but more gentle. Seeing is believing, I used some  last week on a bad acne breakout on my chin and most of my pimples were gone by morning. This essential oil works because it helps the skin reduce the production of sebum and the antiseptic properties helps wounds heal faster. It certainly worked on my face!

Have you ever used tea tree oil to treat your acne?

Review: Dermalogica Oil Control Lotion

September 8, 2010

If you have oily skin or acne prone skin then you simply must try Dermalogica’s Oil Control Lotion.  This Oil Control Lotion is light in texture yet hydrating AND it keeps shiny face at bay. The airy formula goes on effortlessly and a little product goes a long way. When I use this lotion my face is noticeably less oilier and I do not need to blot my face as much. One major plus for me is that there is no harsh “chemical” smell, but rather a light mint scent. There are no artificial colors or fragrances added and it’s also Paraben free.

Dermalogica’s Oil Control lotion contains Camphor, Balm Mint and Cornflower to cool and calm inflammation. It also contains Salicylic Acid (1%) to clear clogged pores and help prevent acne.  For those of us that have sensitive skin, Salicylic Acid may cause irritation. Fortunately for me I did not encounter this problem and I have sensitive skin. Enantia Chlorantha Bark is an extract that’s added to help regulate sebum therefore reducing oily surface shine.

This lotion is a great two in one product oily skin. Instead of using a moisturizer and an oil control product I use this lotion. I honestly cannot say that there was anything that about it that I did not like. Overall the lotion was kind to my sensitive skin, kept me shine free for hours and kept my facial oil in Zen like harmony. What more can a girl ask for?

Dermalogica Oil Control Lotion can be purchased here for $37.
