<p><span style="color: #000000;">In previous years the W Hotel has hosted VIP events at the tents in Bryant Park. This year fashionistas will be able to purchase some of the designer duds directly from the hotel. This collaboration between a luxury hotel and designers could be beneficial to both parties involved especially since the W brand has been no stranger to the fashion industry over the years.</span></p>
<div><span style="font-size: x-small; color: #000080;"><span style="color: #000000;"><em>Each designer has agreed to a season-long partnership with W that will include trunk shows at hotels around the world, creating hotel-inspired items for W&#8217;s Global Glam spring fashion label ($50 to $650) and designing uniforms for new hotels, Women&#8217;s Wear Daily reports.</em></span></span></div>

<p>Two brothers from Spain, Custo and David Dalmau created Custo Barcelona in the early 1980s. While traveling around the world and eventually finding their way to California they were inspired by the landscape and with the surf style. The Dalmau brothers were fascinated by the colorful, psychedelic prints and contrasting styles between Northern and Southern California surfers. The trip was the beginning of their fashion journey and they launched the &#8220;Custo Line” that was inspired by the California lifestyle. Today Custo still delivers their bold prints, bright colors and silk-screened pieces for women and men. With New York Fashion Week coming up quickly everyone is anxious to see the new collections. <p><!--StartFragment--><em><strong>CUSTO SUMMER FESTIVAL</strong> is the most appropriate name for the new proposals in the spring-summer collection 2011 from Custo. Positive energy, freshness and free-spiritedness pervades both the daywear collection, Custo Everyday, and the eveningwear collection, Custo Let’s Party.</em></p>
<p><em><strong>CUSTO EVERYDAY</strong> includes comfortable easywear, with lots of personality and colours, to create whole looks loaded with Custo DNA. Denim is the star of this collection, to wear with slouchy, baggy boho silhouettes. Without forgetting the brightest and most typically Custo colours, the palette this season includes pale, dusty and nude shades and military colour ranges, combined with embroidery, appliqué and patchwork. Innovation in the fabric department with linen, jersey for a cool, natural country look: tricot waistcoats, sweaters and scarves with very open weave to look like holes and macro crochet; dresses and loose shirts in guipure and pieces in viscose. The graphics take two forms: arty geometry and colourful, more figurative microprints.</em></p>
<p><em><strong>CUSTO LET’S PARTY</strong> features sexy looks, shoulder pads, generous necklines, knee-length pieces, and asymmetrical, slightly oversized pieces. Dark colours are the stars of the eveningwear collection, mixed with metallic shades: gold, bronze, copper, mercury and rusts, combined with electric and vibrant tones. The silks are sand washed or overdyed to give a vintage effect, less sophisticated than those in the Lowxury collection. Graphic colourful velour mixed with eco leather or paillettes along with multicoloured digital prints and pixel effects flood the garments in the eveningwear collection.</em></p>
<p><em><strong>LOWXURY</strong> (LOW + LUXURY) is a collection for evening and special occasions at competitive prices in flattering, sensual shapes that skim over the body. Of particular note are the colourful mini-dresses and the tops with fringes and lots of movement, worn with skirts and shorts. Jackets and waistcoats complete an outfit that&#8217;s perfect for every occasion. The brightest colours in the Custo palette are mixed with earth tones, khaki, sand and black and with bright appliqués in passementerie and guipure lace. Fuchsia, jade, aquamarine and mauve sparkles enhance these original creations. And the fabrics? These are fluid chiffons and silk satin with wild, natural-coloured prints. An ode to perforations that allow a glimpse of other prints and materials, even naked skin.</em></p>
<p>It looks like we&#8217;ll be seeing a lot of interesting print combinations in this collection. Personally I am a fan of Custo jackets and I think their use of multiple patterns is as beautiful and spirited as pop art. I&#8217;m looking forward to seeing what they will show at New York Fashion Week. What are your thoughts on this upcoming collection?<em><br />

<p>Emerging independent designers get to showcase their collections at <a href="www.nolchafashionweek.com " target="_blank">Nolcha Fashion Week: New York</a> thanks to the mastermind behind this event, Kerry Bannigan. There was a need to fill a void during Fashion Week where globally minded designers could come together to exhibit their collections. Nolcha Fashion Week: New York takes place simultaneously during New York Fashion Week and brings apparel and accessory designers from all over the world including Brazil, Dominican Republic, Sweden, Russia and many other countries. I was able to interview Kerry Bannigan and asked her to share a few behind the scenes details about this amazing event and it&#8217;s benefits to the fashion world.</p>
<p><strong>What was your inspiration behind Nolcha Fashion Week: New York?</strong></p>
<p>Listening to fashion designers discuss the need for a cost effective platform to showcase their collections to trade. We wanted to provide this but ensure a professional environment and ability to strengthen a designers brand.</p>
<p>In September 2006 we did runway shows for 6 designers in New York and London. Several seasons on and we have worked with over 160 brands and have introduced the Accessory Exhibition, Ethical Fashion Preview and Beyond the Runway Award.</p>
<p><strong>How has Nolcha Fashion Week changed over the years?</strong><br />
<strong> </strong><br />
Each season we expand the Nolcha Fashion Week: New York platform including additional opportunities for designers and our sponsors. We have introduced the Accessory Exhibition and the Ethical Fashion Preview; as well as launched the Beyond the Runway Award this season thanks to LooseButton, MSLK, Ernst &amp; Young, Orrick and Studio Light.</p>
<p>Our support from sponsors grows each year and it is thanks to these companies, such as NY Post, DonQ Rum, Riazul Tequila, Gibellieri Shoes and Marcel at the Gramercy Hotel, that we can offer affordable options for the independent fashion market.</p>
<p><strong>What do you know now that you didn&#8217;t know the first season?</strong><br />
<strong> </strong><br />
That no matter how precisely you plan or how organized you think you are something will always happen last minute, especially when dealing with so many creative personalities. You learn to find a fast solution then laugh.</p>
<p><strong>How can this event benefit the fashion world?</strong><br />
<strong> </strong><br />
Nolcha Fashion Week: New York provides a select showcase of independent fashion designers who are seeking to grow their brand in the USA market. The event supports the fashion designer with a turn-key solution; while providing a convenient destination for media, retailers, stylists, show rooms and other industry executives to attend and connect with relevant contacts to conduct business. We introduce a lot of brands to New York and therefore give our guests the advantage of working with cutting edge brands.</p>
<p><strong> </strong><br />
<strong>What was the greatest compliment that you received about this event?</strong><br />
<strong> </strong><br />
We receive many compliments about the event but for me the biggest compliments are in the actions of our returning sponsors, designers and industry support.</p>
<p><strong>What can viewers look forward to at this years show?</strong></p>
<p>This season we have introduced the Ethical Collective runway show in association with Bel Esprit showcasing sustainable brands Elena Garcia, Tammam, Miksani and Nicole Bridger among others.</p>
<p>We will be debut an interesting selection of designers including Hepsen Uzcan, N Kwon, Stella Simona and Narciss.</p>
<p><strong>Which designer would you say is the &#8220;one to watch&#8221;?</strong><br />
<strong> </strong><br />
Dora Abodi continues to intrigue me and I think the industry will be impressed, once again, by her latest collection.</p>

<p>As a woman with sensitive skin I am always on the lookout for products that cleanse, tone and moisturize without stripping away the precious moisture of my skin or leave it read and irritated. When I learned that Dermalogica was launching a system specifically targeted at sensitized skin I jumped all over it. Dermalogica launched their new product line in their 1,640 square foot Soho, NY store where clients received microZone treatments &#8211; 20 minute mini facials where your skin is analyzed and then zone specific treatments are utilized to treat areas of concern. I really love the concept of a 20 minute facial because it&#8217;s quick enough to do on your lunch break but thorough enough where you will feel completely refreshed. The treatment is $35 for a 20 minute facial which is a steal in my opinion considering the great customer service and the high quality or products that are used.</p>
<p>The product that stood out the most to me was the UltraCalming Cleanser which is a ph-balanced cream cleanser that helps to calm the skin, cool the redness and easily rinses away. Some of the key ingredients are Raspberry fruit extract, Lavender and Cucumber all which calm and sooth sensitive skin.</p>

<p>I was able to try each product in the new line as well as check out some of the many skin care treatments that Dermalogica offers. The Concept Spaces have Skin Bar Stations, MicroZone Treatment areas and Face Mapping skin analysis. The Skin Bar is equipped with personal steamers, mirrors and other implements to allow clients to test and experiment with products.The consultations are free of charge and there is no appointment necessary. There are two Concept Spaces in the US: Soho, NY and Santa Monica, CA however if you are ever in Berlin, Dubai, New Zealand or Mumbai feel free to give your skin a treat.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Makeup Show NYC is such a huge event that it&#8217;s really hard to take it all in and digest all of the information, check out what&#8217;s new and build community within the world of beauty and makeup. While I was there I made sure to make my way around each of the booths to speak with the company representatives and to see what they had to offer. I would have to say that I was pretty successful however there were certain booths that we extremely busy even though  arrived right at 9am sharp.</p>
<p>While at the show I came across a product line that I haven&#8217;t heard of before, it&#8217;s called <a href="http://www.maicouture.com/" target="_blank">Mai Couture</a>. They offer a 2 in 1 oil blotting/bronzing paper. I sampled this product at the show and I really liked it, it was very subtle on my complexion. Here&#8217;s what it looks like:</p>

<p>Another fun and innovative product that I was able to try was from<a href="http://beautyforreal.com/" target="_blank"> Beauty for Real</a>. This created a product perfect for the diva on the go who wants to do a quick touch up on her lipgloss. This gloss comes complete with an LED light and a mirror, everything that you need to look amazing on the go.</p>

<p><a href="http://www.loreal.com/" target="_blank">L&#8217;Oreal </a>had a booth where they had plenty of testers available for the HD makeup. I was even able to pick up a few samples to try out, unfortunately they did not have any makeup for purchase.</p>

<p>I loved these oil blotting sheets from <a href="http://www.makeupmania.com/" target="_blank">Makeup Mania</a>, you can tear off as much or as little as you need. How handy is that?!</p>

<p><a href="http://www.ybskin.com/" target="_blank">Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics</a> is a makeup brand that uses ocean minerals to keep skin hydrated. I sampled their mineral foundation at the booth, loved how smooth it was on my skin. This is a line that I need to take a closer look at.</p>

<p>There were may well known brands at the show such as <a href="http://www.stilacosmetics.com/" target="_blank">Stila</a>, their booth was packed and many of the items were selling out as I waited in line, right before my eyes. This palette was very pretty but there were 4 left when I arrived and the woman in front of me purchased them all.</p>

<p>In addition to the brands represented, there were several business forums and professional development workshops. I attended the Forum with Tegan Taylor the digital makeup artist for films such as Avatar and A Christmas Carol. I also sat in on several of the other business forums and demonstrations, I learned quite a bit about new products and makeup application. The Makeup Show is an event that really aims to educate and inspire those within the beauty industry and it really is a must attend event unlike anything else. I give it 5 stars all the way!</p>
