Review: SaltFacial at the SKINNEY Medspa!

April 8, 2018

Skinney Medspa Manhattan

I was recently invited to experience a SaltFacial at the SKINNEY Medspa and since I’ve never had one I decided to take them up on their offer! The three step facial promises to help improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, age spots and discoloration. And unlike other treatments that require some downtime this treatment is safe and effective for all skin types and results are immediate.

So how does this SaltFacial work?

“A patent-pending, 3-step procedure, the SaltFacial Skin Renewal Therapy restores, replenishes and revitalizes the skin naturally. Three medical-grade technologies are used, including natural sea salt exfoliation, aesthetic ultrasound that delivers nourishing and hydrating formulas deep into the skin, and high-intensity LED Phototherapy that helps to rejuvenate the skin.”

My experience

When I stepped in the Medspa in NYC’s Flatiron district I was immediately taken by lovely neutral aesthetic, the medspa is brightly lit with minimal, clean decor. After checking in at the reception area and filling out my paperwork I was taken to a treatment room with my esthetician. The treatment began with steam extractions and cleansing which was so gentle that I almost fell asleep twice! Normally extractions hurt a bit but my esthetician was a real pro and it didn’t hurt a bit.

Once my face my nice and clean, the natural sea salt exfoliation was the next step. As the treatment began I remember thinking that this was much more gentle that I expected. I’ve had a microdermabrasion treatment in the past and this is similar however this time was face my not red or inflamed. The final steps included an anaesthetic ultrasound and the LED Phototherapy which were both equally relaxing. Once the treatment was over and I touched my face, it felt firm and smooth. I looked in the mirror and my skin already looked noticeable brighter!

Skinney Medspa Manahttan

Overall I had a wonderful experience at the SKINNEY Medspa, the SaltFacial Skin Renewal Therapy is a must have treatment, especially if are seeking a more natural way to look refreshed or if you have skincare concerns like fine lines, sun damage, uneven skin tone, stretch marks, acne etc. I must say that this is a treatment that I would get again; with noticeable immediate results and an uber relaxing environment, how can I go wrong?

Tres Belle Spa: Review + Interview

December 3, 2013

Tres Belle Spa Lobby

I was long overdue for a facial so I headed to Tres Belle Spa in Brooklyn NY to receive a deep pore cleansing treatment and a light peel. This was my first visit to this well-known medi-spa and I could not have been more thrilled with the experience. The energy from the staff is warm and inviting and you feel right at home as soon as you walk through the door. I was immediately offered a warm cup of tea while I filled out my skincare questionnaire to assess my needs.

My esthetician Paula (who had the most radiant skin!) quickly ushered me into the treatment room where I changed into a spa robe. She  gave me the option to choose between two skincare lines, Tata Harper and Skinceuticals. I chose Skinceuticals since I’ve already tried Tata Harper and wanted to experience something new. She explained the steps along the way but still gave me enough quiet time to relax and really enjoy my facial. She made some product recommendations but was not trying to “sell” me anything, I appreciated that. At the end of the facial my skin felt like new and the dry patches on my face were now smooth and softer.

At Tres Belle Spa all facials include a scalp massage, custom blended soothing mask, a vitamin application and a custom exfoliation. It’s truly a luxurious experience!

Medi Spa in Brooklyn

During my time at the medi-spa I had a chance to catch up with the owner, Allison Tray. I was curious about her business so I asked her the following questions:

1. Please tell me about your journey as a medi-spa owner. What prompted you to enter this business?

I was working for many years in the high-end fashion industry
. My dad was a chiropractor at the time and had read about these lasers that remove body hair. I was laughing when he asked me if I wanted to go into this business and asked him “Does this mean my claim to fame will be removing peoples unwanted body hair?!” His reply was “Why not?” After being in business for about a year, a very loyal clientele quickly grew. They began requesting other services like facials and said they only trusted us {Oksana and I my employee of 10 years} and didn’t want to go to any other spa. So, I expanded services and staff to fit the demand. It was exciting to grow this spa together with my clients.

2. What makes Tres Belle different from other spas?

I come very a very philanthropic family and have used my spa as a vehicle to contribute to society in anyway I can. I have rallied my staff and my community to collect food during Hurricane Sandy, Clothes and gifts for domestic abuse survivors, Prom dresses for teenage girls living in Brownsville, curated goodie bags for a program to inspire inner city black teenage girls, Presented to transgender teens about skincare and hormones, sponsored the American Cancer Society gala 3 times, Help the local animal hospitals.  Our quality comes from the inside out. Every single appointment with clients is treated as the most important we’ve ever had. I’m proud to say our tiny piece of Brooklyn has been called “World Class.”

3. What are the most popular services that clients come in for?

We are the Laser Hair Removal go-to in NYC. Many of our clients actually live in Manhattan. We have over 10 years of hands-on experience with all skintones. We have special equipment to treat black/brown skin not only safely but effectively. We have received many accolades over the years for our laser and also for our facials. Our esthetics’s are the best of the best. I interview many staff no less than 3 times before they begin working at Tres Belle Spa. They are all medical estheticians and have completed many years of technique work and to this day, continue furthering their knowledge.

4. What spa trends do you see for 2014?

I see treatments that yield longterm results becoming much more popular. Clients seem to want the latest technology like never before. They are seeing the value in getting laser hair removal and having it gone. People are too busy to fuss. They want results driven treatments that last. Laser hair removal takes the worry of unwanted hair “down there and elsewhere” out of your life completely. No one has time to run around looking for waxing when that spur of the moment beach trip pops up.The same with skincare procedures aside from healthy, periodic cleanings, clients want treatments to deliver results that improve their skin over time. Photofacials for instance, your skin might look even a bit worse right after the procedure but give it 6 weeks and skintone is evening out, collagen and elastin and kicking in and the skins overall appearance gets better and better.

5. What services do you recommend that clients add to their regular beauty regime?

Definitely a Clarifying facial at the end of summer and end of winter. These seasons bring on weather extremes that can make even the best skin get cranky. Post summer facials are going to deep clean the pores which have been exposed to on=the-go sunscreen, sweat, heat,  and possibly a little extra cocktail-ing, all of these elements can lead to deeply congested pores, which lead to break-outs. Post winter skin will need lots of exfoliating to get the dead skin off and to kick-start cell rejuvenation. a professional peel and hydrating treatment will get you your glow back.

At Home Spa Treatment: Hot Tea Toe Pedicure

August 27, 2013

Hot Tea Toe Pedicure

Spa pedicures are always a relaxing way to keep you feet looking fabulous but sometimes we don’t always have time to go to the spa. So at home treatments are a great way to incorporate a bit of self care and beauty into your day,

Owner of As “U” Wish Nail Spa, Skyy Hadley, offers her celebrity clients like Janelle Monae her Hot Tea Toe Pedicures. These pedicures are $50 but if you visit the spa on a Friday you can enjoy their $35 special. If you can’t make it to Hoboken for this warm organic Citron Green Tea foot bath with Sea Salt Mint Scrub, then try this at-home version below.

You Will Need:

  •                 Small foot tub (or large plastic bucket)
  •                 5 Green Tea Bags
  •                 Lemon Essential Oil
  •                 Foot File
  •                 Cuticle Stick
  •                 Small Jar or Bowl
  •                 Sea Salt (or Epsom Salt)
  •                 Skin nutritive oil such as Olive Oil, Almond Oil or Jojoba Oil
  •                 Fresh Mint Leaves

Green Tea Foot Soak: Soak 5 Green Tea Bags in boiling water for about 20 minutes. Pour into tub, add a few drops of Lemon Essential Oil and let feet soak for about 10-15 minutes. After your feet have been sufficiently soaked, buff away the dead skin on the bottom of the feet with a Foot File. Focus on your heels to remove extra dead skin and then push back cuticles with a Cuticle Stick- leave the cutting to the professionals! Rinse with warm water and completely towel dry.

Sea Salt Mint Scrub: Add a few mint leaves into an empty jar and muddle to release their natural essential oils. Pour your oil into the jar until it is almost full. Fill half the jar with Sea Salt and mix with a spoon until salt is completely immersed in the oil mixture. Grab a spoonful of your scrub and work into legs and feet to completely exfoliate and remove dead skin.

NIVEA Touch of Sparkle Moisturizing Body Wash

August 21, 2013

NIVEA Touch of Sparkle Moisturizing Body Wash

NIVEA Touch of Sparkle cream oil body wash is enriched with sparkling diamond powder and has a intoxicating scent of white calla blossoms.  Nivea also offers similar body wash options like touch of harmony, touch of smoothness, touch of happiness, touch of blueberry shower gel, touch of cashmere, touch of serenity & touch of renewal in body scrub.

The shower gel lathers well without the use of a puff and very little of the product is necessary to achieve this. This cream oil body washes feels great on the skin, and rinses off cleanly.

NIVEA Touch of Sparkle Moisturizing Body Wash

This lightly scented body wash leaves your skin soft without leaving it oily. I usually apply lotion after my shower but my skin felt hydrated enough to skip this step but I didn’t since I always take hot showers and that alone can dry out your skin. The NIVEA Touch of Sparkle fragrance lasts long enough to get you through your morning routine but will not overpower your usual fragrance. So go ahead and spritz on your favorite scent!

What are some of your favorite body washes?

Disclosure: I am a NIVEA Digital Influencer and received this product for review. Receipt of product did not guarantee a review and all opinions are my own.

At Home Spa Treatments for Dry Skin

August 9, 2013

Do it yourself At home Spa Treatments

As the summer season wraps up, Josie Feria, Director of Lapis Spa at Fontainebleau, shows you how to bring luscious Lapis Spa treatments home and get rid of dry, unseen skin just in time for summer!

Body Exfoliation Simulates Spalicious Body Scrub

Skin softening natural all body exfoliating treatment

·         Ingredients:  ½ cup olive oil, ¾ cup fine sea salt and drops of your favorite aromatherapy oil. Keep in mind the oil selected should be specific to treatment goal – citrus is energizing – lavender relaxing – peppermint stimulating

·         Place all items in a bowl and blend together

·         Next, step into the shower and moisten the body – apply the blend by hand in circular motion or for increased exfoliation apply with loofah mitt or body brush

·         Rinse off thoroughly.  Skin will feel smooth and soft and supple. For further hydration apply body lotion directly to moist skin

Facial for Extra Dry Skin

Skin softening avocado mask for combination or dry skin

·         Ingredients:  ½ avocado, 1 egg, 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and 1 teaspoon of baking soda.

The avocado and coconut oils work as an instant skin softener as the baking soda works as a mild exfoliator

·         Place all items in bowl and blend well together

·         Apply the mixture to your face and leave on for 10-15 minutes

·         Rinse off with warm water

Foot Scrub for Dry Feet and Heels Simulates Foot Rehab Pedicure

·         Begin by soaking feet in ¼ cup baking soda to reduce inflammation and cleanse feet thoroughly for 10 minutes

·         Using a wet pumice stone rub heels thoroughly yet gently to remove dry callous

·         Next, apply coconut oil to feet

·         Finally, wrap feet in plastic and cover with soft socks for 30 minutes. The plastic and warmth will help the oil to soften the skin.

What are some of your favorite at home spa treatments?
