Last week I attended an event at the LUSH Cosmetics store in Union Square, Manhattan. LUSH previewed their new Emotional Brilliance line and a fun new way to choose your new makeup.
I’ve been a fan of LUSH for many years because they care deeply about the ingredients that go into their products and they make some amazing skin care products. LUSH products are 100% vegetarian, 81% vegan, 70% preservative-free and of course they are cruelty-free. So I rarely worry about horrible sulphates and cheap fillers when I shop at LUSH.
While at the event I leaned about the new brand concept of matching psychological needs to color cosmetics that one should wear, hence the name Emotional Brilliance. It’s all about wearing colors that shape you mood! LUSH worked with a behavioral therapist to find a list of words that corresponded to each color. I had my “Emotional Brilliance” reading at the event where a store representative spun the color wheel and I picked out three colors that resonated with me. The three colors symbolize a strength, an unconcious need and a talent. I picked three bright colors, because I was in a cheery mood. The colors that I choose were called Ambition, Passionate and Drive. All work related of course, I’m not surprised.
The colors that I choose are part of the Liquid Lips collection. Liquid Lips feel like a combination of lip gloss and lipstick. They’re heavily pigmented, yet very moisturizing in a base or organic jojoba oil, candelilla wax and rose way. They feel really nice on the lips!
The Emotional Brilliance line arrives in clear glass bottles with no additional packaging. Everything is recyclable except for the brush. The bottles are also much larger than the typical cosmetic container which typically hold 2g of product, while LUSH gives a generous 8g of product.
The supplementary product line completes the range with mascara, skin tints and translucent powders. Even their new mascara, Eyes Right, is packaged in a glass container! It’s safe to use on sensitive eyes and contains Wheatgrass to condition and nourish lashes.
As a huge fan of bronzers, the Charisma Tint immediately stood out to me. It’s a warm glowy tint that’s perfect for summer.
Translucent Powders and I are BFFs in the summer, they keep me shine-free during humid weather. But finding a great translucent powder is no easy task, some powders contain too much talc and can leave your face looking ashy. I really like the LUSH formula , it contains jojoba oil to help the powder to apply smoothly over the skin without looking dry.
If you’re not into bronzers but really love a highlighter then, “Feeling Younger” might be for you. Feeling Younger is a glimmery highlighter that can be used under eyes, on your cheekbones or brow bones to give the skin a youthful glow.
Emotional Brilliance launches July 21, 2012 in LUSH stores worldwide and online. Products range from $18.95 – $22.95.
What do you think of the new LUSH Emotional Brilliance line?

Hi Christy, Try it, I think you’ll like it!
These look lovely, and I intend to check them out soon.
One thing you said though needs clarification/revision: Lush does indeed use sulfates, just not in this set of products. They use SLS and ALS in their shampoos, soaps, and shower gels. They’re open about it and have the ingredients listed in an easy to find place. I don’t mind it personally, and think there are far more worrisome ingredients out there.
